Peter Latona's setting of the Entrance Antiphon for the Dedication of a Church is a perfect balance of solemnity and festivity. It opens with a brass and organ fanfare (echoed later by organ alone) and a chant-like choral section. Then the antiphon unfolds—easily sung by the assembly, while the verses offer some meat for SATB choir. Brass Quintet is used well throughout, supporting the antiphons and decorating the verses. Appropriate also for church anniversaries, the Feast of the Dedication of St. John Lateran, Christ the King C, or other festive liturgies. Duration: 8:00.

Though he is not well known today, Heinrich Marschner (1795-1861) was the greatest German operatic composer of the generation between Weber and Wagner. He is best remembered for his operas Der Vampyr, Hans Heiling, and Der Templer und die Jüdin. Marschner’s early career was a patchwork of short engagements. He achieved more stability in 1830 when he was appointed Hofkapellmeister at the court of Hanover, a position he held until his retirement in 1859. In addition to opera, he is known for his songs, chamber music, and choral music, especially his works for men’s choir. Der Vampyr premiered in Leipzig in 1828. The Chorus of Witches and Spirits is the opening chorus of the opera. It creates a dramatic sense of foreboding as dark forces gather to celebrate the Witches’ Sabbath and summon the Vampire King.

REPUBLIC OF ICELAND: Lofsöngur (Song of Praise)

This quick and easy national anthem arrangement is essential for traveling musicians, bands, instrumental groups and both amateur and professional ensembles. You can play it with any virtually any combination of instruments: symphonic band, clarinet choir, brass ensemble, brass band, solos, duets and trios - almost anything!

This arrangement is in six independent parts each transposed into a variety of keys. For the most satisfying sound you’ll need to get a good balance between each part possibly with an emphasis on the melodic line. If you have a non-standard ensemble, you can pick 'n' mix as required. The piano reduction can fill missing parts or can be used as the basis for an accompaniment.

This arrangement consists of a three-page score with seven instrumental staves and three percussion staves. The following parts are printed on separate pages. The score and all the parts are contained in the same pdf file.

He has published a great deal of music and his publishers include Boosey & Hawkes, Novello, Paxton, Schott, Oxford University Press, Chester, Belwin Mills and Intrada (Netherlands). The Journey of Hope was written as a commission for the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus. I was asked to write a piece that would celebrate the possibility of moving towards a better future, inspired by the desire and need to join together as a community in Jacksonville, Florida. Often when we look around and wonder how young people can grow into responsible, caring people in the face of so much adversity, music, and hope become more essential than we can all imagine. The Journey of Hope is scored for SSAB voices, with the baritone part written so that it is appropriate for changing male voices. Accompanimental parts are provided for piano, djembe, cabasa, and bass guitar. The title gives a clue to the focus of the text: a forward-looking view of what we can accomplish together through hope and unity. Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain is significant for several reasons. Composed in 1867, it is a tone poem inspired by the Russian legend of nocturnal revels on St. John's Night, involving a witches' Sabbath on Bald Mountain near Kiev. The piece is known for its high drama, dark textures, and bold harmonies, which Mussorgsky's colleagues considered excitingly expressive and raw. The work was unpublished and unrevised at the time of the composer's death, and his colleagues, including Rimsky-Korsakov, later revised it. The composition remains a powerful representation of Russian folk tradition. It is associated with the pagan festivities of the midsummer Slavic holiday, making it a significant piece in the history of Russian classical music.

The legend of the nocturnal revels on St. John's Night in June on a hill called Lysa Hora near Kiev is a prominent Slavic tale that inspired Modest Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain. The legend tells of a demon, Chernobog, who leads the revels until a far-off church bell sounds disperse the Spirits of Darkness. This tale is associated with the pagan festivities of the midsummer Slavic holiday and is a significant part of Russian folklore and culture. Lysa Hora, meaning Bald Mountain or Barren Mountain, is a large wooded hill in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, near the confluence of the Dnipro and Lybid' rivers, and is the traditional site of the witch gatherings in Slavic folklore. The legend's themes of darkness, supernatural gatherings, and the triumph of light have made it a compelling source of inspiration for various artistic works, including Mussorgsky's musical composition.
