It was his work with Jean-Albert Villard, the organist of the Cliquot organ of the Cathedral of Poitiers which would determine his vocation as an organist. Different techniques were used to depict the different words used such as Pater, or Father, the depiction of the heavenly host and choirs of angels, Filius, or Son, the duality of Jesus' nature as God and Man and a depiction of his Passion through chromaticism and minor tonalities. Lastly, Spiritus Sanctus, or Holy Spirit, depicted by the floating sound above the entire chorus like a dove, descending on Jesus during His Baptism.

The text has been adapted into contemporary English. The multiple verses of the poem are set with slight modifications to the melody, and the harmony and choral texture are also changed with each verse. The listener and performer will immediately notice the juxtaposition of D major and D minor tonality which is the biggest challenge for the singers. The organ accompaniment provides full support for much of the work making it accessible for most four-part choirs and a nice addition into the Advent and Christmas repertoire.
