Choro and its diminutive Chorinho meaning Lament and Little Lament respectively is a Brazilian popular music genre originating in the 19th century. Despite its genre name the music is mostly characterised with happy fast syncopated rhythms and melodies in counterpoint and also with instrumental dexterity. Many times in has found its way in works by classical composers as in the case of H. Villa Lobos etc, and although usually played by various ensemble bands in its popular dance form, the guitar as a solo instrument is a very obvious choice for its rendering.
