Works well without beat boxing, with just snapping, or more involved VP like in our performance. Though the chart is short, we liked to repeat the whole form once and let someone solo over A and B then have the main soloist come back at C. Anything for You is short and sweet, easy to memorize, and has some chromatic modulations that provide a challenge! A great piece to start out your semester with if you have singers with great intonation!

The text, also know as Wrestling Jacob, describes Jacob's physical and spiritual struggle with the pre-incarnate Son of God. It reveals the inner struggle of man wrestling to know, Who is God?. Finally, the piece resolves with the triumphant declaration that, Thy nature and Thy name is Love! The voices begin with an optional solo or unison choir, broadening to 2 and 4 parts throughout. Delight the listeners with an optional countermelody in verse 4, and an a capella section in verse 5. The simple, intermediate level accompaniment compliments the text and supports the voices throughout the piece. The arrangement begins in an easy to play key of G, transposes to the lower key of F, and finishes with a broader, slower melody in the key of G. The voices remain at a comfortable range. This piece comes from my first major, extended work, A Prayer for Mother Earth, that was premiered at the Carnegie Hall on May 28, 2016.  Canticle of the Sun is the most popular sacred poem of the Italian literature, written in 1224 by Francis of Assisi. It is a prayer, a hymn of thanksgiving and praise to God for the creation of the world.  Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Water;she is very useful, and humble, and precious, and pure.  In this movement (which is the 3rd of five) the orchestration is very delicate, the strings often playing pizzicato. The piano plays an important role, introducing the principal theme that is later taken up by the voices.
