The first publication of this shape note hymn was in 1858, although music scholars tend to put a much earlier date on it.  This starts with the altos, for a change, in a fair statement of the melody and idea.  The second verse weaves melody, harmonies, and embellishments together like an old quilt.  The third verse modulates from d minor to e minor and quotes the 1858 version closely, but not entirely.Minimum of 5 copies purchase.
