Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899136 Composed by Alban Berg. Arranged by Rod Whittle. Contemporary. Individual part. 4 pages. Maggie Creek Music #3874083. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899136). For solo classical guitar; 4 pp; first part of 2nd movement of the Lyric SuiteAlban Berg 1885 -1935Berg was a student of Arnold Schoenberg, and came to prominence with compositions using the atonalism of that school. He incorporated chromaticism and an absence of tonality into his compositions with complete facility, if not to public acclaim. His creativity was interrupted by World War 1, during which he served in the Austrian Army. He returned to composition as a champion of modern music, with his opera Wozzeck (1923) bringing both fame and notoriety. He died of blood poisoning in 1935. Over the past century dissonance increased in the compositions of serious music to a point where the semitones had equal value, which is harmonically a kind of wall. Berg was an early innovator. However, if when strictly followed such serialism reaches an ultimate dissonance that effectively sees off melody and harmony as emotional and structural entities, that still leaves elements around form, dynamics and rhythm for the purposes of expression, and these together with adroit note selection prove to be surprisingly potent for articulation and cohesion. The Lyric Suite (1927), which uses Schoenberg's twelve-tone technique, is a case in point. The very name seems incongruous for an atonal work, yet lyric it is, and if the forms used are necessarily masked by the characteristics of serial writing they are not eliminated by them. In this excerpt a rondo form is used with the principle subject repeated on the third page (noted in the score) after a digression to more remote regions than this form usually adopts, due to the atonality.   As well, Berg's writing is rarely purely atonal. In fact the integration of consonant elements are one of the music's most alluring features. It would be so easy, one feels, for melodic material to coagulate the mix, but in his hands the very opposite is generated, an increased clarity of mood. The music remains consistent, as it should, and the incorporation of (often only relatively) thematic material, if often arresting after so much dissonance, doesn't always always mean less intensity or gloom. It is simply effective, either way. Having said all that, it can hardly be denied that the substance of atonality (dissonance, clashing semitones, unharmonic bass) gives it a special suitability to express dark outlooks, and Berg is the author of Wozzeck and Lulu, no downtown musicals. It is hard to determine if Berg chose atonality because it could deliver the angst or because he was bored with obvious forms and romanticism. Probably both.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942164 Composed by Max Reger. Arranged by Armin Terzer. 20th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. 8 pages. Armin Terzer #5037767. Published by Armin Terzer (A0.942164). This is an arrangement for woodwind quintet of Max Reger's Scherzino for horn and strings. It is pretty straight-forward (the solo horn part remains the same) but needs technical facility in the woodwinds. Great (short) feature piece for horn demonstrating both its technical and lyrical capabilities, suitable for any performance situation. The level of difficulty depends on the performance tempo - it lies somewhere between intermediate and advanced.

Cello Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1025985 Composed by diego longobardi. 20th Century,Contemporary,World. Individual part. 2 pages. Diego longobardi #5726225. Published by diego longobardi (A0.1025985).

Organ - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.534671 Composed by Claude Debussy/Robert Orledge. Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score. 5 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #5775633. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534671). Noes by Robert Orledge: Debussy planned to compose seven pieces of incidental music for André Antoine’s production of Shakespeare’s King Lear (Le Roi Lear) in 1904 at the time of his elopement to Jersey with Emma Bardac. However, he never completed the project due to Antoine’s frequent postponements and unwillingness to provide the ‘30 musicians’ Debussy required to avoid ‘a feeble little sound like fleas rubbing their legs together!’ On the verso of the Fanfare manuscript from Debussy’s sketches, I discovered the start of an extremely moving little piece in a modal D minor, which could only be for ‘La Mort de Cordélia’ in Act 5, scene 3. I thought this would be best suited to a binary movement in which most of the first half, the striking chromatic introduction and the elegiac theme are all by Debussy. This pencil sketch turned up in 2000 in thecollection of Mrs Jayne Ericourt (wife of the pianist Daniel Ericourt) in Greensboro, North Carolina, USA.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.818235 By Stephen R Dalrymple. By Elizabeth C. Clephane 1830–1869 (lyrics) and Frederick Charles Maker 1844–1927. Arranged by Stephen R Dalrymple. Contemporary,Sacred. Score. 12 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #3098321. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818235). Beneath the Cross of Jesus ♫ Original piano arrangement by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ Based on the public domain hymn by Elizabeth C. Clephane 1830–1869 (lyrics) and Frederick Charles Maker 1844–1927 (melody) ♫ In preparing to compose the arrangement I asked myself “What would be the opposite of “Beneath the cross of Jesus I fain would take my stand.†How could I picture that? The opposite of firm footing, stability, taking a stand is vacillating between ideas or chasing numerous ideas. ♫ I pictured the wind scattering leaves and debris, but failing to budge heavy objects, anchored to the ground. ♫ Our culture bids us chase after status, power, money, pleasure, thrills … The problem, of course is that the shelf life of the satisfaction that these things brings is very short. Chasing after status, power, money, pleasure, thrills, etc. is like is like chasing the wind. ♫ Portraying chasing the wind allowed me to use some contemporary classical composition techniques such as polymeter, polytonality, and deliberate dissonance. The first theme suggests the futility and inevitable frustration of chasing the wind. The score opens up to the beauty of a life grounded on the cross of Jesus Christ. ♫ music © 2017 (copyright registered in ‘I See Your Glory’ collection) ♫ recording ℗ 2022 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ presentation © 2022 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ performed by the composer ♫ This .pdf file includes 2 files: 1) Letter size piano score 2) Small page piano score for performing from a 10 inch tablet, 4) Small page piano score for performing from a 10 inch tablet. ♫ (Tell your computer which pages you want to print.
