Instrumental Duet Alto Saxophone,Clarinet,Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.587523

Composed by Jeremiah Clarke. Arranged by David McKeown. Baroque,Concert,Instructional,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 3 pages. David McKeown #4355047. Published by David McKeown (A0.587523).

The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop.  Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard.

This full version is arranged as a duet for Clarinet and Alto Saxophone and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The complete performance on youtube and the short audio sample are from the Clarinet Duet version of this arrangement.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with strict time, full tone and dynamics.

SKU: A0.810986

Composed by Jeremiah Clarke. Arranged by Dunn, Bruce. Baroque,Classical,Renaissance. Score and parts. 7 pages. Gordon Cherry #4603899. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.810986).

Jeremiah Clarke's Trumpet Voluntary or Prince of Denmark’s March sparkles all the way from beginning to end. Mr. Dunn has done a great job with this arrangement for Brass Trio of Trumpet, Horn and Trombone. The work was incorrectly attributed to Purcell for many years.

This music is very popular as a wedding processional (performed at the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana) and was broadcast by the BBC extensively during WW II during the occupation of Denmark.

The work is under three minutes in length. Parts are supplied for C and D trumpet, Horn and Trombone/Euphonium. Easily within range of intermediate/advanced performers.

SKU: A0.803800

Composed by Jeremiah Clarke. Arranged by Serena O'Meara. Baroque,Praise & Worship,Standards,Traditional,Wedding. 4 pages. O'Meara Music #4717975. Published by O'Meara Music (A0.803800).

After decades of discussion, musicologists seem to agree that it was Jeremiah Clarke that composed Trumpet Voluntary and not Henry Purcell. In rondo form, this majestic march is a standard in the Baroque repertoire. This arrangement is a good opening number at a performance or could be used at weddings within Prelude, Processional or Recessional.

Dynamics, lever and pedal changes are clearly marked. The melody is entirely in Harp I.

Clarke wrote Cousins, a cornet and trombone duet with band accompaniment in 1904 for himself as the cornet soloist and Leo Zimmerman as the trombone soloist.

To create a clean new edition, dynamics and articulations were made more consistent in the parts. Other items were changed to reflect the bands of today including F Horn parts rather than Eb and the percussion parts have been reorganized.
