Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1025435 Composed by Samuel Warren Hatch. 20th Century,Contemporary,Jazz. Score. 9 pages. Samuel Warren Hatch #4764165. Published by Samuel Warren Hatch (A0.1025435). Piano Sonata No. 1 in E Major is the first series of concert piano works by S. Warren Hatch, written during his undergraduate study at Campbell University. Each movement is distinct, in that each of them is composed in a different form, utilizes different key changes and scales, and takes influence from a different period in classical music. While there is no theme that connects them to one another, they are all in the key of E Major and consist mostly of a waltz-like feeling. III. A Reflection of Passing depicts the shifting aspects about death as a person matures. It’s a piece that came from a time of great loss and much grieving. It begins with an innocent, hopeful understanding of death, followed by a major tone shift, where there is an odd utilization of the piano: the performer sings into the piano while holding down the sustain pedal, which vibrates certain overtones, producing what sounds like a distant choir. The piece closes with a triumphant, hopeful melody, borrowed from a song written by S. Warren Hatch when he was in high school.Composer Notes- Be sure to ensure that the stage hands lift the piano lid before the sonata’s start, as the strings will need to be exposed in order for you to sing into the piano’s body during A Reflection of Passing. For that section (page 22) you will need to face and sing directly into the strings while holding down the sustain pedal for the entire page. If you are playing with the sheet music (don’t worry, I’m not shaming you) simply slide the music holder in order to expose the part of the strings that are closest to you. For this sonata, I encourage you to find your own voice in these pieces. Your own interpretation should align with how you most relate to the message/story they’re telling. This could be using the una corda (leftmost) pedal during lighter sections to further differentiate them, or having a heavier rubato to strengthen the impact of certain phrases. As long as you bring these pieces to life, then it has my stamp of approval.

Guitar (classical) - Advanced - Digital Download SKU: M0.30072EB Composed by Rovshan Mamedkuliev. Arranged by Rovshan Mamedkuliev. Solos/Studies, World. European. E-book. Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music #30072EB. Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music (M0.30072EB). ISBN 9781619114654. 8.75x11.75 inches. This collection contains arrangements by one of the leading guitarists of the new generation, Rovshan Mamedkuliev. Rovshan invites guitar lovers to explore Russian music of the 19th century. Alexander Borodin (1833 - 1887), member of the famous Mighty Handful, wrote his Petite Suite for the piano. The four pieces presented in this collection barely utilize any of the piano's idiomatic techniques. Though unfamiliar to the guitar until the present day, the selected miniatures are wonderfully suited to its technical and timbral capabilities, especially Serenade. Thanks to the clearly defined genre of Nocturne, the vivid imagery of Reverie and the folk colour and bell-like melodiousness of In the Cloister, the four pieces, rich in quality and substance, will be a valuable contribution to the guitar repertoire. Anatoly Lyadov (1855 - 1914) used to joke that he could not stand more than five continuous minutes of music. The genius of musical miniature created his compositions to be laconic and refined in form, simple yet elegant. Lyadov's contemporaries called his pieces tiny pearls of finest finishing and compared the composer himself to a jeweler. His three preludes from op.36, op.39, and op.40, will become a fulfilling experience for the guitarist as the music explores the rich palette of the mysterious Russian soul, ranging from stormy aspirations to dreamlike, elegiac moods - expressed by the composer in but a few sounds.

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549576 Composed by Edvard Grieg. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards,World. Score and part. 18 pages. Jmsgu3 #3509365. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549576). Duration: ca. 2:17 Score: 10 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 5 pages. A proven audience pleaser - perfect for a recital encore! Grieg Background In the first place, Edvard Grieg (1843 –1907) was a Norwegian composer as well as a concert pianist. As a matter of fact, most music historians consider him one of the foremost Romantic era composers. Consequently, his music is part of the international standard classical repertoire. Grieg moreover used Norwegian folk music in his own compositions.  Consequently, he ushered Norwegian music to transnational consciousness. Furthermore, he forged a national musical identity for Norway. It is important to realize that he did this in a manner similar to Jean Sibelius in Finland, and BedÅ™ich Smetana in Bohemia. Legacy Grieg is especially celebrated in the city of Bergen. For example, the city has erected numerous statues depicting Grieg. Specifically, the city has named a concert hall (Grieg Hall), a music school (Grieg Academy) and a professional choir (Edvard Grieg Kor) after him. As a matter of fact, there is also a museum located at his former home in Troldhaugen. Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (Op. 46) Grieg wrote incidental music for the purpose of illustrating a play by Ibsen known as Peer Gynt. The play includes, in particular, the famous selection entitled, In the Hall of the Mountain King. In this composition, Grieg indeed depicts the exploits of the scoundrel, Peer Gynt. In one famous episode, for example, Peer steals a bride at her wedding. For this reason, the people chase him, but soon Peer falls, thereupon striking his skull on a boulder. He wakens forthwith in a highland bounded by angry gnomes. Consequently, the music of In the Hall of the Mountain King represents the mad gnomes taunting Peer. Therefore, each time the theme repeats it gets louder and faster. In the end, Peer surprisingly escapes from the mountain. Holberg Suite and Misc. Summary It must be remembered that Grieg originally wrote his Holberg Suite for the piano. In other words, he only later arranged it for strings. Further, Grieg composed by and large many songs with lyrics by famous writers such as Heine, Goethe, Ibsen, Hans Christian Andersen, Rudyard Kipling, and others. On balance, Norwegian pianist Eva Knardahl recorded altogether Grieg’s whole piano catalog on LP in 1980. These recordings were released again on CD in 2006. In any event, Grieg himself performed and recorded the bulk of these pieces toward the end of his life.

Han-Ki Kim #170954. Published by Han-Ki Kim (A0.561516). “Spring of Home Country†for String Orchestra, Op. 159D “Spring of Home Country†can be said to be a work of variation in a word, and it was composed with the theme of the melody of Nanpa Hong, who played an important role in spreading Western music in Korea in the early 1900s. The nursery rhyme “Spring of Home Country†was composed in 1929 and is a familiar melody to all Koreans, young and old. The content of the poem is about the beautiful and nostalgic nostalgia of the village where I lived as a child. Following the lively prelude in 4/4 time, first violin plays the theme in an atmosphere as if reading a poem, followed by the first variation composed of splendid dispersion chords. Variations 2 and 3 are played by intersecting the parts with “Jajinmori†and “Gutgeori,†which are unique Korean rhythms. In the 4th variation, the slow-expanded theme contrasts with the fast tones of the first violin up and down. Then, the 5th Variation of the Cadenza character is played, and the final 6th Variation of the majestic character and a short coda decorate the end. In this score, short sentences suitable for the musical situation were also written in the score, so that the performer could feel the Korean sentiment in a more concrete way. YouTube link is just for a reference. it is played by concerto form.

Published by Abundant Silence (A0.1259272). OF SHADOWS ON THE STARS, BY KURT M. MEHLENBACHERFOR SOLO PIANO, EARLY ADVANCED, 14 PAGESOf shadows on the stars finds its name within the famed poem Sure On This Shining Night by James Agee. The poem receives a great deal of discussion on its meaning, contemplating if the words are hopeful, mourning, rife with humility, or a statement of resignation. My take on the poem is that it is of deep hope and contemplation, declaring that the world is held in the warm embrace of summer and that life if being kind. Most strikingly, though, is the last line of shadows on the stars, forming the crux of the text. It is the moment when the words change perspective from the stars casting shadows on the earth to the earth casting its shadows on the stars.Regardless of what that may mean exactly, its elegance caught me, and its inherent imagery helped guide the formation of this piece. Unlike Lauridsen or Barber–neither of whom I am claiming to bear resemblance–this work actually has no text, and is driven more from the diction and isolated events present in the text rather than an interpretation of the poem as a whole.

Hymn included with the score.Text:1 O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness, bow down before him, his glory proclaim;with gold of obedience and incense of lowliness, kneel and adore him the Lord is his name.2 Low at his feet lay your burden of carefulness, high on his heart he will bear it for you, comfort your sorrows and answer your prayerfulness, guiding your steps in the way that is true.3 Fear not to enter his courts in the slendernessof the poor wealth you would count as your own;truth in its beauty and love in its tendernessthese are the offerings to bring to his throne.4 These, though we bring them in trembling and fearfulness,he will accept for the name that is dear;mornings of joy give for evenings of tearfulness, trust for our trembling and hope for our fear.5 O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness, bow down before him, his glory proclaim;with gold of obedience and incense of lowliness, kneel and adore him the Lord is his name.

String Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.933524 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven, Cees Nieuwenhuizen. Arranged by Upstream Music. Classical. Score and parts. 24 pages. Upstream Music #6353319. Published by Upstream Music (A0.933524). The Prelude and Fugue in C major were created during the period of study with Johann Georg Albrechtsberger, who lived from February 3, 1736 to March 7, 1809. Albrechtsberger was an Austrian theoretician and pedagogue of music, an organist, as well as a composer. He entered upon his career early as a choirboy in the choir of the monastery of Melk, Austria. There he was discovered by the crown prince, the later emperor Joseph II. The latter facilitated an appointment as the court organist.Later Albrechtsberger became conductor of the chapel choir of the famous Stephansdom in Vienna. Albrechtsberger was a highly praised pedagogue; Beethoven, too, was among his pupils. It was this composer that studied with Albrechtsberger from January 1794 to March/May 1795. Together with Beethoven, Albrechtsberger researched all forms of the counterpoint, which is most manifest in the large number of exercises passed down; over 300 studies, fugues etc. have been preserved with corrections and alterations by Albrechtsberger. During this period of study, greater works were also composed, such as the Dona Nobis Pacem (Hess A57), the Prelude and Fugue in E minor (Hess 29), the Prelude and Fugue in F major (Hess 30) and the present one in C major (Hess 31). The piece was probably composed in 1794-95; this opus also shows numerous improvements and alterations by his master, although some alterations are by Beethoven himself. The manuscript of the work is to be found in Vienna, and did not appear in print until 1967 for the first time. The present version sticks closely to Beethoven’s, but has been provided with a double bass part so as to adapt the work for being performed with a larger strength than for which it was originally written. The strength originally intended by Beethoven was two violins, a viola and a cello, so as a string quartet. With the supplementary bass part, the piece can also be played by a string orchestra, which will no doubt promote its dissemination and familiarity. In a sense, the work is already a preliminary study for the string quartets Opus 18 produced later.Especially the rhythm, melodic forms, and the counterpoint applied, frequently return in these string quartets. Beethoven has hardly indicated any rests in the empty bars; Cees has as yet added them. The phrasing, dynamics and time indications have also been added. Beethoven merely writes down the notes, while we have to accept the fact that various notes have been changed by Albrechtsberger but Beethoven’s notes might have been just as interesting. Of some notes it was not clear what Beethoven exactly meant; in such a case, Cees has adhered to the harmonious form, adapting the notes which, logically speaking, fit in with the harmonic unity.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.561515 Composed by NanPa hong. Arranged by Han-Ki Kim. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Country,Instructional. 26 pages. Han-Ki Kim #170953. Published by Han-Ki Kim (A0.561515). “Spring of Home Country†can be said to be a work of variation in a word, and it was composed with the theme of the melody of Nanpa Hong, who played an important role in spreading Western music in Korea in the early 1900s. Atteched YouTube link is just for a reference. it is played by concerto form.
