The set was commissioned in 2020 by Anima Vox Duo (Tadeu Coehlo, flute, and Carole Ott Coelho, voice) for She Can, We Can project. The set was premiered by Anima Vox Duo on March 09, 2021, at the University of North Carolina School of Arts.This was my first time working with the texts by Sara Teasdale (1884-1933), and I was so inspired by her poetry that several more settings followed after it. All of the selected poems for this cycle were published in 1915 in the book entitled Love Songs. Teasdale’s texts indeed have inner music, and it seems like they are just calling to become songs.Performers should take as much freedom as they want, and follow the natural flow of phrases. This cycle is all about being a duet, not one instrument accompanying another. Although the tune has several verses, the orchestration here gradually grows to mimic the original. The guitar, of course, cannot mimic the endless sustain of the pipe organ, so I have made the setting a little more guitar-like with arpeggios and with extra movement in the harmony lines, so that there is an illusion of much more sustain. A listen to the sound-file alongside the music for sale should show that the result is restful and fun to play.Dynamics are suggested that mirror the original (with choir, organ and full orchestra) but the fingering are yours to choose - just make sure you make the performance yours...I hope you enjoy performing this!

Arranged wind quintetThe original baroque music used by Igor Stravinsky for his ballet Pulcinella was originally attributed to Giovanni Pergolesi, as they were so described in a Mr R. Bremner's original 1780 London publication. They were also arranged later by Hugo Riemann, and were again wrongly attributed to Giovanni Pergolesi.However most of the original music is by Domenico Gallo (including the Finale of the suite), one or two are by Giovanni Pergolesi (including the Menuetto)The Pulcinella Suite for small chamber orchestra and 3 vocalists which was derived from the ballet, was written in 1922 and has no vocal parts. This is the original music he used as the basis of the Sinfonia, Scherzino, Gavotte and Variations and the Minuetto/Finale in the Suite.But even though Stravinsky used Gallo's and Pergolesi's melodies and bass lines with little change in the earler movements of the Suite he managed to put his own unmistakable stamp on the music through his use of modern harmonies and occasional rhythmic modifications.However in the Menuetto and Finale he changes things considerably, with more dischordant harmonies and rhythm changes.My arrangement is of the the original pieces and uses Gallo's/Pergolesi's classical/baroque harmonies.Check out my other arrangements of other music used by Stravinsky in his Pulcinella Suite..

Written by the American jazz bassist Jaco Pastorius, this atmospheric composition soon established itself as a bass standard and a benchmark for other players to aspire to. Jaco's composition has been sensitivley scored for three soprano saxophones and one baritone. This is perhaps an unusual choice of piece to transcibe for saxophone quartet but with the right aproach to performance, it lends itself well to this kind of ensemble. The three sopranos play the high floating bass harmonics, while the baritone holds down the pulse provided by the lower strings of the instrument. The four players will need to demonstrate incredible control, balance and ensemble flexibility, to create the right relaxed ambience for the music to sound natural.
