The death of AÌ?se is from Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46, which was extracted from the incidental music to Henrik Ibsen's play, Peer Gynt. The five-act drama concerns a young Norwegian lad named Peer Gynt, who dreams of becoming emperor of the world. His sundry adventures are the stuff of high drama and adventure, and are rough and isolated in a way that is peculiarly Nordic. Grieg captures this tone perfectly with his music.The death of AÌ?se  was intended to be played as a prelude to the third act. Peer Gynt has returned home to his mother Ase, only to find that her days on earth have come to an end. A slow and sad piece.Full score, and individual parts.

Mr. Dunn has done a great job with this arrangement for Brass Trio of Trumpet, Horn and Trombone. The work was incorrectly attributed to Purcell for many years. This music is very popular as a wedding processional (performed at the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana) and was broadcast by the BBC extensively during WW II during the occupation of Denmark. The work is under three minutes in length. Parts are supplied for C and D trumpet, Horn and Trombone/Euphonium. Easily within range of intermediate/advanced performers.

This is the final movement from Shavano Suite, a set of four pieces inspired by folklore and campfire tales of the Maysville/Mount Shavano area in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The suite was originally scored for classical guitar duet, but this version is expanded for guitar, string quartet and percussion. The percussion part requires a large drum (or timpani), glockenspiel, guiro and wind chimes.  The suite has a total performance time if 17 minutes. This movement, however, can stand alone as a concert piece, with a performance time of 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Performance demand is advanced intermediate level. In the Hall of the Mountain King was originally written by Edvard Grieg as incidental music (basically background music) for a scene in Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt. The truly distinctive sound has ensured that the piece has continued to be played and arranged for all sorts of groups in the almost century-and-a-half since the play was first performed. This particular arrangement by Mark R Lewis is for a Mixed Clarinet Quartet: 2 Bb clarinets, 1 alto clarinet, and 1 bass clarinet. The melody stays primarily in Clarinet 1 but does jump between the top three parts and players will need to be able to play most of the range of the instrument regardless of which part they are playing. That said, most intermediate players should be able to play this piece given they have the range and it will be a challenge for less experienced players. This arrangement also available for Bb Clarinet Quartet and the sound samples for this listing come from that arrangement.
