The Hand of You is a piano solo arrangement of the 1920 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano.  For the first verse I simplified the original ballad's thick chords into a more shaped and expressive two part writing, just single notes in each hand.  For the second verse I did a reharmonization of the melody, adding some simple harmony and octaves for the climax, then back to two part.  Then a soft rich chordal cadence to end.  Originally a love song, I have emphasized the simple and powerful emotion into a beautiful piece.  2 page score; 2:30 minutesThis piece is also found in my book, Carrie Jacobs-Bond, Popular Songs 1900-1925, a collection of 51 of her songs I have arranged for piano solo, which is also available on this site.

In the Hall of the Mountain King was originally written by Edvard Grieg as incidental music (basically background music) for a scene in Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt. The truly distinctive sound has ensured that the piece has continued to be played and arranged for all sorts of groups in the almost century-and-a-half since the play was first performed. This particular arrangement by Mark R Lewis is for a Bb clarinet quartet. The melody jumps between all four parts and players will need to be able to play most of the range of the instrument regardless of which part they are playing. That said, most intermediate players should be able to play this piece given they have the range and it will be a challenge for less experienced players.
