In writing this piece, I envisioned landscapes covered in snow and ice – a meadow, a dark forest, a frozen lake, and a majestic mountain range. I sought to capture other elements of sound and imagery as well, such as whistling and whirling of frosty wind, glittering sunlight reflected off of shards of ice, snow falling, and joyous sounds of people ice skating. I was largely inspired by an experience I had of standing outside one wintery evening in Colorado – one of my favorite places to be in Winter – captivated by the beauty of all I saw, heard, and felt around me. Since then, I have always experienced a thrill of wonder, beauty, and mystery about the outdoors in Winter.

Additionally, the movements can be presented in any order, although the most common order is indicated in the score. FLEXIBLE INSTRUMENTATION: The Galvitone are tuned pipes Clocks created for their ensemble. A combination of glockenspiel and crotales can be used in place of this instrument. The Aquarion is a glass marimba built for this piece. Another instrument, such as the MalletKAT, keyboard, or combination of marimba and vibraphone can be used in instead. Of Make and Movement was commissioned by the Clocks in Motion percussion quartet. This is the first percussion quartet I wrote for them as their resident Clock Shop composer. Growing up surrounded by many  antique clocks in my childhood home, I was inspired to create a piece that, for me, encapsulates some of the ways these clocks show the passing of time: the swinging of a pendulum, aging crystals in a quartz clock, and how the continuous movement of the hands could represent how we are in this continuous dance with time.

Elsewhere the accompaniment is less rhythmically busy than the original, yet the chords are retained.There are two arrangements in this one edition...Version 1 allocates the music to the players as if they were the left and right hands of the piano piece - ideal for a duo in which one player is technically stronger than the other (for example a student/teacher duet).Version 2 swaps the roles around at the phrase boundaries and suits a well-matched duo.The choice of which you play is yours...The arpeggios are fingered because they generally only work well in one position. The melody, by contrast, is unfingered; it is chromatic and so there is no place on the neck where all the notes are accessible. Rossini's Barber has proven to be one of the greatest masterpieces of comedy within music, and has been described as the opera buffa of all opere buffe. The overture remains a popular stand-alone selection for orchestras, wind and brass bands. Jari Villanueva has been writing arrangements for decades. Chasing after status, power, money, pleasure, thrills, etc. is like is like chasing the wind. ♫ Portraying chasing the wind allowed me to use some contemporary classical composition techniques such as polymeter, polytonality, and deliberate dissonance. The first theme suggests the futility and inevitable frustration of chasing the wind.
