I’ve suggested that this piece grows in volume throughout the 3 verses that I’ve arranged, and to support this, the number of notes each part has gradually increases, so that the notes have less time to die away before they are replaced. So part of the build in volume happens automagically!There are no page turns. The soundfile alongside the score is from the 3rd verse where you can hear that the sound is becoming busy and powerful. I've changed the key slightly so the music fits the guitar neck better and the modulation in the reprise is in a familiar key for the players.The music rises and falls as the song progresses, making the dynamics happen almost automatically. It can be performed without the violin and cello if necessary, without altering the character of the music.A perfect song for Burns Night which is 25th January.This song is a product of Beethoven's great interest in folk songs, and his collaboration with a Scottish publisher, George Thompson.
