Choral, Piano Accompaniment, Violin Accompaniment (SATB Choir)

SKU: HL.292885

Composed by Domhnach Trionoide. Arranged by John Cornish. Fred Bock Publications. Sacred. Octavo. 12 pages. Fred Bock Music Company #BG2669. Published by Fred Bock Music Company (HL.292885).

UPC: 888680932794. 6.75x10.5 inches. Trans. by H.W. Baker/J.M. Neale/Arr. John Cornish/Domhnach Trionoide.

The Advent text from the 4th century, most commonly used with the “DIVINUM MYSTERIUM” tune, has been placed with the haunting Celtic hymn tune DOMHNACH TRIONOIDE. Along with the violin obbligato and the exquisite musical setting, the text receives a fresh embrace. The poetry and the tune are ageless and enable this piece to work in both concert and worship venues.

Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Chamber,Christian,Classical,Instructional,Religious. 41 pages. Regis Bookshar #713949. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.1111657).

Recordare (from Requiem (K. 626) - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/Franz Xaver Sussmayr - Flute Septet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a Flute Septet, and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. This arrangement will provide students with the opportunity to practice breath control because of its long, sustained phrases, and also to give them the chance to play this beautiful composition, something which they may not have had the opportunity to do, otherwise. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this arrangement. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (41 pages). The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble has performed the Trumpet Quintet version of the Recordare for funerals, providing beautiful, introspective music for the occasion. There is some controversy surrounding the circumstances of the Requiem's composition because Mozart died before he could complete it. Count Franz von Walsegg had commissioned a Requiem Mass but Mozart had received only half of the payment in advance. So, upon his death on December 5th, 1791, his widow, Constanze, wished to have the work completed secretly by someone else and submit it to the count as having been completed by Mozart to collect the final payment. Joseph von Eybler was one of the first composers to be asked to complete the score and had worked on a number of movements but felt unable to complete the remainder and gave the manuscript back to Constanze Mozart. The task was then given to another composer, Franz Xaver Sussmayr. Sussmayr borrowed some of Eybler's work in making his completion, added his own orchestration to other movements and added several new movements which a Requiem Mass would normally comprise. He then added a final section by adapting the opening two movements which Mozart had written to the different words which finish the Requiem Mass, which according to both Sussmayr and Mozart's wife, was done according to Mozart's directions. The completed score, initially by Mozart but largely finished by Sussmayr, was then dispatched to Count Walsegg complete with a counterfeited signature of Mozart dated 1792. Despite the controversy over how much of the music is actually Mozart's, the commonly performed Sussmayr version has become widely accepted by the public, and is considered one of Mozart's finest compositions. The Recordare is considered by many people to be one of the most beautiful compositions in Mozart's entire catalogue. Regis Bookshar, a trumpet player, has performed the Requiem in concert with a full orchestra, soloists and a chorus and felt that other musicians should have the opportunity to play the hauntingly beautiful Recordare as well. So, in addition to this arrangement for a Flute Septet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this beautiful composition. There are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may fine something else which may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I'm certain that this beautiful arrangement of Mozart's Recordare, will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Composed by Various. Arranged by Curtis Hanson. Sacred. 8 pages. Curtis Hanson #6069327. Published by Curtis Hanson (A0.719761).

As years come and go, one increasingly recalls memories of earlier times. One of the most vivid and cherished memories I have while growing up is of Sunday mornings, going to church, sitting in the same pew each week with my grandmother, hearing and singing the beautiful hymns of our faith, and then returning home to the aroma of beef slowly roasting in the oven. My father directed the church choir, my mother and older brothers sang in the choir, so the wonderful music of our faith was instilled in me from an early age. This medley, and others in the series, are arrangements of many of my favorite hymns from those early years, many of which have been lost in more recent editions. For this series, I have elected to use the older texts as that is the way they were first written and the way I first learned them. There is a reverence and beauty in the language enriching the vocal tone which, I believe, is lost in contemporary, conversational, or politically correct syntax. I shudder to think of the day when a penitential phrase such as Hear thou my prayer, O Lord is rendered as Hey, God-dude, listen up - I'm talkin' atcha! I have also opted not to include the many wonderful hymns and carols which are associated with the major festivals of Christmas and Easter as those are commonly found in other collections. A caveat: I have no delusions, and I offer no pretenses, that these settings are great art. They are simply expressions of faith which I hope may bring a small measure of joy to other church musicians. The general concept of each medley is to present the hymn, often in its original chorale form, and then vary its harmony or texture. The hymns in this set include He Leadeth Me, Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us, and O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee. This collection of arrangements is also available for SATB voices and piano or piano solo.

Composed by Jason McChristian. Contemporary. Score and parts. 108 pages. Jason Gary McChristian #550933. Published by Jason Gary McChristian (A0.886118).

This work is comprised of three series, each series contains four issues. It may be performed in a number of different ways; each issue or series may be performed separately or, the entire work, consisting of twelve issues and a Prologue, may be performed as a whole. In its entirety, the running time of Strange Myths and Wondrous Images is approximately forty-five minutes. Each issue represents an element: either an archetype, place, or an emotion, commonly found in comic book stories. As a whole, Strange Myths and Wondrous Images tells a particular story arc, one that is intentionally void of specific details, inviting the listener to imagine the particulars. Each series also contains its own sub-plot and emotional progression, while the formal structure suggests the traditional symphonic form. Each issue has a duration of three to four minutes, limited to a small, but intensely expressive amount of thematic material. The challenge inherent in this limitation was to create enough contrast, yet not so much as to require more time to resolve it, therefore, each issue is self-contained. Composed by Franz Xaver Gruber. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Christmas,Instructional,Multicultural,World. Score and parts. 11 pages. Regis Bookshar #6636613. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.814531).

Brass Octet - Intermediate - Digital Download. This arrangement of Silent Night, or in German, Stille Nacht, would be a wonderful addition to any music library and could be performed for Christmas concerts, recitals, and, especially, church services. It is equally suitable for junior and senior high school students and even older musicians. Depending on their ability, younger musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (11 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.

Silent Night is probably the most popular Christmas carol ever written. It was composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr and was first performed on Christmas Eve at St. Nicholas parish church in Oberndorf, a small village in present-day Austria. A young Catholic priest, Father Joseph Mohr, had written the poem, Stille Nacht, in 1816 and had gone to Oberndorf in 1817. The melody was composed by Franz Xaver Gruber, schoolmaster and organist in the nearby village of Arnsdorf. On Christmas Eve, 1818, Mohr brought the words to Gruber and asked him to compose a melody and guitar accompaniment for that night's mass, after river flooding had possibly damaged the church organ. The church was eventually destroyed by repeated flooding and has since been replaced with the Silent-Night-Chapel.

According to Gruber, Karl Mauracher, an organ builder who serviced the instrument at the Oberndorf church, was enamored with the song, and took the composition home with him to the Ziller Valley in Tyrol, Austria. From there, two traveling families of folk singers, the Strassers and the Rainers, included the tune in their shows. The Rainers were already singing it around Christmas, 1819, and once performed it for an audience that included Franz I of Austria and Alexander I of Russia. They also gave the first performance of the song in the United States in New York City in 1839. By the 1840's, the song was well known and was reported to be a favorite of Frederick William IV of Prussia. During this period, the melody changed slightly to become the version that is commonly heard today. The version of the melody that is generally used today is a slow, meditative lullaby, or pastoral, differing slightly from Gruber's original which has a moderate tempo. The song has been translated into about 140 languages and has been recorded by many singers across many music genres. The version sung by Bing Crosby in 1935, has sold over 10 million copies as a single.

In this arrangement of Silent Night, Regis Bookshar has kept the basic form of this familiar Christmas carol, but has also included a descant during the third verse. Also, in addition to this version for a Brass Octet, consisting of 3 Trumpets, 2 French Horns and 3 Trombones, there are other arrangements of Silent Night available for a variety of instrumental ensembles. There are Quintets and Octets readily available for purchase. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that might also suit your needs.

Composed by Robert Buckley. Arranged by Rita Arendz. 20th Century,Instructional,Patriotic. Brass Band. 60 pages. Rita Arendz #727278. Published by Rita Arendz (A0.1126635).

The original work for Concert Band was commissioned by Edward Trovato and his band, The Gleneagle Secondary School Senior Symphonic Band, of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. The inspiration came from the name of a stretch of highway that pays homage to the fallen soldiers. It was composed to honour heroism of all kinds - to pay tribute to the brave souls who every day unselfishly risk their lives and even pay the ultimate sacrifice. There are two Highways of Heroes in Canada, the first being a portion of the King's Highway in Ontario, commonly referred to as Highway 401 and officially known as The MacDonald-Cartier Freeway. The second is the portion of the Trans-Canada Highway in British Columbia between Surrey and Abbotsford. In 2007, The Government of Canada renamed the freeway in Ontario between Trenton, home of the Canadian Forces Base Trenton, and Toronto, where the Office of the Chief Coroner is located. This was the first stop for the fallen returning from Afghanistan before returning home to their families. Although Canada had a special forces team in Afghanistan in December 2001, the first infantry battalion did not arrive until February 2002. That April saw the first casualty. The funeral processions that followed inspired a spontaneous phenomenon of Canadians lining the 100-mile route, waving flags and rendering salutes to remember their country's soldiers. The second Highway of Heroes was dedicated in 2011 to the memory of British Columbians who paid the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives for their country in Afghanistan and to the families they left behind. This setting for British Style Brass Band was written to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the first main body of Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan and to remember the 159 service personnel and civilians whose sacrifices cannot be forgotten. Duration ~4:55. 60 pages.
