Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1076424). Matty Groves is a variant of the English folk song sometimes called Little Musgrave. While the lyrics of the song are rather risqué, dealing with an affair between the local lord's wife and a commoner from the town, the tune is quite lively and fun to listen to. Matty Groves is well attested to in folk song literature going back at least as far as the early 1700s if not earlier. It is most well known now because of the British folk rock group Fairport Convention. This version is arranged by Mark Lewis for Bb clarinet quartet. All four players get a turn with the melody, harmony, and accompaniment parts and the verses are separated by a short interlude with an original melody. The rhythms and fingerings are not too difficult but the melody does cover a fairly large range so it may a challenge for younger players. However, almost all intermediate and even some advanced middle school players should be able to play this fun little piece.

The story can be smelt, observed and felt by hearts.� Inspired by the Chinese history and culture of tea, I composed Symphony in the Teapot in 2005. Because there were very few pipe organs in China, this work was originally written for Electone Organ, an electronic instrument featuring orchestral and newly developed electronic sounds. Maire Dhall, also known in English as Blind Mary is a tune attributed to Carolan in several sources, and written in honour of the harpist and teacher Maire Dhall of Roscommon. It is a slow and rambling tribute, and very beautiful played in an expressive style as if it were sung in the Irish sean-nos style. There are some ornaments, and alternate versions of the melody, and a somewhat older or classical feel to the arrangement. It could be an elegant slower piece in the middle of a slightly faster set - many people say the tune affects them quite emotionally, so I tried to write to enhance that.

The key of 6 flats is used, so that the player or student can get the feel of being somewhat percussive on the black keys. The white keys used are Cb, Fb and Abb! The melody is stated in thirds, with larger sonorities at the cadence points. The chords Fb Maj7 and Abb Maj9 are used, so that the sudden shock of seeing chords in sharps juxtaposed against the 6 flats is avoided. It really is easier to play than to read. The piece repeats, with a vamp intro and coda. Approx duration 1 and a half mins. Left hand is half-note bassline throughout.

Pride, pomp, and circumstance of glorious war! – It is these words from Shakespeare's Othello that the probably best-known work by the English composer Sir Edward William Elgar falls back on: the five marches which are contained in Pomp and Circumstance Marches, op. 39. The work was a sensational success from the very beginning, especially March No. 1 should be going around in the head of every lover of classical music. At its premiere in 1901 under the composer's direction, the audience requested two repeats; in 1902 the words of 'Land of Hope and Glory' were added to the march at the request of Edward VII for his coronation ceremonial. The resulting version is now performed every year at the Last Night of the Proms and as English hymn at the Commonwealth Games. Motivated by the success of the first two marches, Elgar composed another three which were performed in 1905, 1907 and 1930. No. 4 is as euphemistic and formal as No. 1 whereas the others are of a rather melancholy nature.

At that time, there was suggestions that the incumbent First Minister of Scotland Jack McConnell had claimed that a debate on an official national anthem for Scotland should take place to address the issue.MSP Murdo Fraser expressed concerns over the three most popular candidates for an official national anthem of Scotland – Flower of Scotland, Scotland the Brave and Highland Cathedral.
