Different from typical Requiem settings, the full sequence Dies irae is omitted, replaced by its section Pie Jesu which is often used as a 'stand alone' movement for religious occasions, notably funerals and memorial services. The original single soprano line is retained and the ATB voices provide an accompaniment. Effective as a solo quartet but also suitable for larger choral forces.
