Chamber Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1430293

By Sarah McLachlan. By Randy Newman. Arranged by John Langley / Studio Orchestrations. Broadway,Children,Contemporary,Film/TV,Musical/Show,Singer/Songwriter. 28 pages. Www.studio-orchestrations.com #1010934. Published by www.studio-orchestrations.com (A0.1430293).

What a privilege to share an arrangement of this perfect song, sung by Sarah McLachlan in Toy Story 2 in 1999.  If Toy Story and Toy Story 2 hadn't already entirely induced a nostalgic empathy from its audience for the life of old toys we used to play with, Jessie's heartfelt song of her memories with 'Emily' tugs the heart strings to make grown men cry.

Randy Newman wrote a perfect little gem in this short but iconic moment in movie history.  In the most respectful way the write and the song do so little SO well.  The orchestration is sparse but completely appropriate and supportive.

This arrangement follows the original soundtrack as closely as possible and would make a wonderful addition to a kids or education concert or an evening of film, musicals or just a celebration of great song writers.

Thank you Randy Newman for your wonderful understated genius for using musical simplicity to unpack human complexity.

Lyrics:
I see you don't care,
You don't care.
I see you don't care.

Won't you take care of me?
Won't you take care of me?
Won't you take care of me?

I used to be your keeper,
Was always there for you all time,
And if you cried,
I'd hold you,

Close to my heart and whisper,
You are the best thing in this world,
My little sweet,
Cry no more.

Now, won't you take care of me?
Won't you take care of me?
Won't you take care of me?

You needed me,
I was there,
I could not leave you there alone.
My little love,
You got me.

You called to me;
Teach me all,
I was so glad to show you all,
My little dear,
Know it all.

And when you're scared,
I held you,
I said, My baby, I'm right here.
I prayed to God,
Keep my love!

But now, won't you take care of me?
Won't you take care of me?
Won't you take care of me?

My little sweet,
My happiness,
I will never forget.

Now a grown-up,
Now you don't care,
Never remember me?

I just need you here with me.
I cannot do it on my own,
My little best,
You've so grown.

I need you to understand;
I will not be here for so long,
My little sweet,
I need you now!

So now, won't you take care of me?
Won't you take care of me?
Won't you take care of me?

Small Ensemble Flute,Piano,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1008082

Composed by Connie Pwll Walck Tyler. Contemporary,Sacred. Score and parts. 14 pages. Connie Tyler #4607671. Published by Connie Tyler (A0.1008082).

This piece, for soprano and alto duet with piano and flute, speaks of the persistence of the dove, the peace maker, faced with war, famine, poverty, etc. It was written when the United States went to war with Afghanistan and Representative Barbara Lee stood up and was the lone voice against war. Although the piece is secular, the use of the symbol of the dove would work well in religious services.
The piece involves a two against three rhythm which suggests the difficulties the dove faces flying for peace against the overwhelming odds of war.
The .mp3 file is computer generated with choral oohs for the voices. The words are:

Now the dove flies, sails the war-torn skies,
feels the wind rip through her wings.
Tossed and turned now, cries of war howl,
tear-ing through her, and she still sings.

Sings to march-ers on crowd-ed streets
sing-ing songs of love and songs of peace.
Tips her wings to those who dare stand tall,
speak re-sound-ing no's in hal-lowed halls.

They say that that sin means to miss the mark.
I have so man-y times aimed in the dark.
We fail in lit-tle ways, be-tray our friends.
It was-n't planned that way.
Dis-trac-tion leads to e-vil ends.

The sha-dow fear clouds our at-ten-tion.
Mind falls a-stray in-to dis-sen-sion.
Ig-no rance can twist the dart
and then it falls far from the mark.

Na-tions, too, a-stray our free-doms bend
‘til some have bombed away all chance at friends.

We see glo-ry mag-ni-fied.
Shout our prais-es to the to the skies.
Build our mon-u-ments to our wars,
for-get-ting the needs of of weak and poor.

And still the dove flies while the earth cries
pol-lu-ted with more de-bris of war.
Child-ren sick now, soldiers cry foul!
Dove is weep-ing and yet she hums.

Hums to child-ren who die
de-spite moth-ers' deep cries.
Sings to young who march to war,
de-spite fa-thers' out-raged roars.
Wings o-ver fa-mine and drought,
pol-lu-ted wa-ter, pol-lu-ted ground.
Folds us un-der her down-y breast.
Warms us in her gen tle nest.

Yes, the dove flies. Sails the wa- torn skies.
Feels the wind rip through her wings.
Tossed and turned now cries of war howl
tear-ing through her and yet,
and yet she sings.

ISBN 9781513477510. 8.75X11.75 inches.

John Dowland (1563 – 1626), a contemporary of both William Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth I, was recognized as one of the greatest musicians of his time, writing songs, ensemble music and solos for the lute.

Early music has long been part of the classic guitar repertoire and more recently, it has been adopted with enthusiasm by ukulele players. This book presents sixteen of Dowland's most beautiful lute songs that can be performed by ukulele players, with or without a vocalist.

Two versions of each song – one easier and another more advanced—are offered in both standard notation and tablature for soprano, concert, and tenor ukuleles in re-entrant (gCEA) tuning. Various vocal ensemble renditions of the songs, as well as the author’s video performances of each solo arrangement are available online. For vocalists and their audiences, and for all musicians and songwriters to fully connect with the emotion of the songs, Dowland’s sublime lyrics are also included.
