Johann Pachelebel's celebrated Canon in D is perhaps the most famous canon ever written. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon in D was originally scored for three violins arranged in canon accompanied by a basso continuo playing an ostinato pattern, repeating the same harmonic progression throughhout the entire composition.
Regis Bookshar has now arranged this composition for a Euphonium Trio, written in Treble Clef, which play the melody in canon and a Keyboard instrument, either a Piano or Organ, which plays the ostinato pattern.
