Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.894344 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by Theoria Music. 20th Century,Folk,Traditional. Score. 4 pages. Theoria Music Publishing #3624287. Published by Theoria Music Publishing (A0.894344). The Entertainer is sub-titled A Rag Time Two Step, which was a form of dance popular until about 1911, and a style which was common among rags written at the time. The piece is a 1902 classic piano rag written by Scott Joplin and it was sold first as sheet music, and in the 1910s as piano rolls that would play on player pianos. The first recording was by blues and ragtime musicians, the Blue Boys in 1928, played on mandolin and guitar. Its structure is: Intro–AA–BB–A–CC–Intro2–DD.It is primarily set in the key of C major; however, for the C section (commonly referred to as the 'Trio'), it modulates to the subdominant, F major, then through a transitional passage modulates back to C major for the D section. The B section contains an indication that the melody is to be played an octave higher on the repeat. In the June 7, 1903, St. Louis Globe-Democrat, contemporary composer Monroe H. Rosenfeld described The Entertainer as the best and most euphonious of Joplin's compositions to that point. It is a jingling work of a very original character, embracing various strains of a retentive character which set the foot in spontaneous action and leave an indelible imprint on the tympanum.Suggested by the rag's dedication to James Brown and his Mandolin Club, author Rudi Blesh wrote that some of the melodies recall the pluckings and the fast tremolos of the little steel-stringed plectrum instruments. Stark issued an arrangement of the piece for two mandolins and a guitar.Wikipedia contributors, The Entertainer (rag), Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Entertainer_(rag)&oldid=916644407 (accessed September 29, 2019)Title: The EntertainerComposer: Scott JoplinYear: 1902Format: PDFSize: 8.5x11Publisher: Theoria Music PublishingWebsite: https://sheetmusicmarket.com

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.499760 Composed by S. G. Potts. 20th Century,Contemporary,Romantic Period,Standards. Score. 18 pages. S. G. Potts #3512109. Published by S. G. Potts (A0.499760). The Raymond Variations for Piano (Set 1),  received its world premiere on 2nd December 2015 at the 1901 Arts Club London,  performed by Lorraine Womack-Banning as part of a memorial tribute concert to  her late husband Raymond Banning (former professor of pianoforte at Trinity  College London). The Variations  are based on the three Andantino themes which form a central part of the ‘Raymond  Overture’ written in 1851 by French composer Ambroise Thomas: 1811-1896. There are nine piano variations in total; these include a  mix of both full and short partial variations (including a very short  declamatory two chord introductory variation). The variations are not numbered  or set-apart in a conventional manner, rather they form part of a continuous  whole, and are separated only by bridge passages and/or cadence points; they last  a little under eight minutes in duration, and strongly exploit the passionate  elements of Thomas’s themes. They have been written for the most part in an  accessible tonal style (with a passing nod to Messrs. Beethoven and J.S. Bach) and  are based predominately in the home key of D minor, but they do also take  advantage of many 20th and 21st century harmonic techniques where deemed appropriate: e.g. added note chords; cluster chords; percussive chords, and melodic  deflection. In particular, the interval of the major 7th and its enharmonic  equivalent(s) (the most distinctive interval in the main andantino theme from   the overture) is heard in various different guises throughout the variations:  this includes its inversion the minor 2nd which has a very distinctive sharp  dissonant quality. Much play is made of these intervals – to somewhat humorous  effect in variation 8 (the joker in the pack) heard some three quarters into  the set, here the dissonant interval is pounded out double forte before hastily  leading into some boisterous cluster harmonic instability; then quietly begins  variation 9 which duly brings the set to a close. Look out for the sting in the tail!

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.944518 Composed by George Shearing. Arranged by Aldo Martinez. Contemporary. Octavo. 9 pages. Aldo Martinez #6111273. Published by Aldo Martinez (A0.944518). Lullaby of Birdland is a jazz standard and popular song composed by George Shearing with lyrics by George David Weiss George Shearing wrote Lullaby of Birdland in 1952 for Morris Levy, the owner of the New York jazz club Birdland. Levy had got in touch with Shearing and explained that he'd started a regular Birdland-sponsored disk jockey show, and he wanted Shearing to record a theme which was to be played every hour on the hour. Levy originally wanted his own music to be recorded, but Shearing insisted he couldn't relate very well with it and wanted to compose his own music. They compromised by sharing the rights of the song; the composer's rights went to Shearing, and the publishing rights went to Levy.

B-Flat Clarinet,Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1208741 Composed by Adam Lenhart. Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. 33 pages. Adam Lenhart #806841. Published by Adam Lenhart (A0.1208741). Introduction to The Rubáiyát of Omar KhayyámThe Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam is a Persian poetry collection first put together in 1460 in Shiraz.  It consists of quatrains, four-line poems, with a set of unconventional themes.  The poetry is irreligious and questions the afterlife and God's providence.  It shows keen awareness of the shortness of life and the finality of death. It advises therefore that every fleeting moment of every day should be savored, with wine, lovers and song. The combination of a serious philosophy of life and a carefree attitude has made the poetry popular for centuries.  In 1859, Edward FitzGerald brought out a loose English translation that took the world by storm.  It became the most beloved and widely known poem in the English language for decades until its popularity finally faded in the late twentieth century. Although they were attributed to the great mathematician and astronomer, Omar Khayyam (d. 1131), the poems were by many anonymous hands, and he was just a frame author, akin to Scheherezade in the Arabian Nights.- Dr. Juan Cole, Richard P. Mitchell Collegiate Professor of History at the University of MichiganAbout the CompositionTwo Scenes from The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám explores and embodies two of the main themes that carry throughout the quatrains of the poem collection. In FitzGerald's translation, the quatrains follow a day to night cycle. The two movements reflect this by starting off with an abrupt wake up section and ending the piece with a nocturne.  The first movement, Wine, celebrates the camaraderie, joy and chaos that comes through the physical joy of being with friends. The clarinet, violin and piano interact in a conversational way, talking, laughing, and insulting one another in their own independent lines. The second movement is entitled Intimacy and explores the emotional joy of connecting with one another. The movement is set in a waltz style dance and draws influence from Chopin, Liszt and other romantic era composers. This is juxtaposed by youthful and energetic phrases so that the piece embodies all forms of love: young love, years of marriage and even friendship. Each movement has a sense of urgency and density which is present in the rubá'iyát as well, expressing to the reader that our time on Earth is so short and to make the most of each day.---------------------------Adam Lenhart (b. 2002) is a University of Michigan student of music theory, composition, voice and organ from Ottawa Lake, Michigan. As a theorist, his areas of study vary widely, including 18th century counterpoint, the early American Sacred Harp tradition, and impressionism. As a composer, his music draws inspiration from nature, mathematics and poetry. In 2020 he was awarded the Michigan Music Education Association’s Young Composers of Michigan award, as well as first prize in the University of Toledo Young Composers competition. Lenhart has also participated in numerous ensembles across Michigan, including the MYAF All-State Choir, Tecumseh Pops Orchestra, University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club and the SMTD University Choir. He thoroughly enjoys collaboration with other composers, performers, poets and visual artists.
