This composition is a concert band transcription of my orchestral score Interlude for Orchestra, which represents a major revision of one of my earliest attempts to write for orchestra, way back in 1966. Revisiting it after over a half-century languishing in the drawer, I was shocked to find some surprisingly worthwhile material. While it little resembles something I would write today, I managed to rework it into a legitimate and enjoyable piece of music, 54 years in the making. Grade 4 - Duration 7:20

Selections from these two pieces are wonderfully transcribed for young band in Mussorgsky! The arrangement begins with the mystical opening from Night on Bald Mountain which transitions to the hauntingly beautiful conclusion of that same work. To conclude is the Great Gate of Kiev from Pictures at an Exhibition which is one of music literature's most inspiring moments. (3:30)Concert/Contest.

Great fun for all generations, and all generations to come! This arrangement provides a dramatic opportunity to teach expression. A charming and musical choice, it is memorable and heartwarming.
