School Sisters of St. Francis #920199. Published by School Sisters of St. Francis (A0.1333939). Sr. Presentia Steffen OSF (1916-2000), colleague of Sr. Theophane Hytrek OSF, composed this simple organ piece on the Midnight Mass Gregorian Chant Communion antiphon. Its text is: In splendoribus sanctorum, ex utero, ante luciferum, genui te; in English, “Amidst the splendours of the heavenly sanctuary, from the womb, before the morning star, I have begotten you.†The manuscript is not dated but was likely created before 1950.  Sr. Presentia succeeded Sr. Theophane Hytrek OSF as St. Joseph Convent Chapel organist from 1953 until she suffered a stroke which paralyzed her left side in 1964.  Further information is available from Heritage Music Series editor -- Dr. Sheri L. Organ - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1393791 By Dr. Sheri Masiakowski. By Sr. Mary Hueller OSF (Sr. Maurelia Hueller OSF). 20th Century,Sacred. Score. 6 pages. School Sisters of St. Francis #977263. Published by School Sisters of St. Francis (A0.1393791). Sister Mary Hueller (1921-2017), DMA from the Eastman School of Music, colleague of Sr. Theophane Hytrek OSF, was professor of organ, piano, and liturgical music at Alverno College (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) throughout her professional career. At various times Sister Mary chaired the Fine Arts Division, coordinated the Music Department, and served on many college committees. After Sr. Theophane Hytrek's passing in 1992, Sr. Mary succeeded her as organist at St. Joseph Chapel for several decades.  “Tribute†was written in response to Sr. Theophane Hytrek’s choral compostion  “Canticle of the Creatures†(SSAA) sung by the School Sisters of St. Francis choirs regularly for community celebrations since it was written in 1949. The choral composition will soon be published in both SSAA and SATB arrangements.“Tribute†is of intermediate difficulty but has a challenging pedal part. At the time of composition Sr. Mary had learned to use Finale software and engraved the original score herself. This editor enjoyed spending time with Sr. Mary once a week as tutor while she developed this skill. Unfortunately the original computer file is no longer available and extant copies are not of sufficient quality to publish. Dr. Masiakowski produced the following edition based on Sr. Mary’s score. Fingering and pedal suggestions are those of Sr. Mary Hueller. We invite you to browse other creative works by the School Sisters of St. Francis on our website:  https://www.sssf.org/SSSF/Our-Global-Impact/United-States/Music-Ministry/Catalog-of-Music.htm  Further information about our offerings is available from Dr. Sheri Masiakowski, curator of the Heritage Music Collection, at smasiakowski@sssf.org.

Arranged by edited by Dr. LeRoy Henry & Marie Bender. Funk,Jazz,R & B,Rock,Soul. 29 pages. Dr. LeRoy Henry #941577. Published by Dr. LeRoy Henry (A0.1356940). Cissy Strut is a 1969 funk instrumental by The Meters. Released as a single from their eponymous debut album, it reached No. 4 on the R&B chart and No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100. The tune was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2011, which honors recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old. The A.V. Club called the song a classic deeply rooted in New Orleans music tradition.Cissy Strut was featured in the films Jackie Brown, Red, King Richard and Another Round as well as in the BBC television series The Pursuit of Love.In 2021, Rolling Stone ranked Cissy Strut at number 158 on their 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list, one of the handful of instrumentals to make the list. Many transcribers of this tune obscure the 1/4 notes by improperly beaming the 1/16 notes. This arrangement fixes that issue. After solos the tune returns to the B section and then the A section This is called the Boden form used by Bartok and is frequently used when playing jazz ballads. This arrangement includes optional horn parts (trumpet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trombone, and baritone saxophone). These parts include chords where the players can farm out the various notes to different horns.
