This piece is based off of the sarabande, a dance with traditions in 16th century Spain. It was also adopted in the Baroque-era as a movement in a suite (namely dance suites). Many composers added a sarabande to their works, including Bach and Handel. Another detail important to the sarabande is the emphasis on beat 2, with the piece in 3/4 time. The emphasis relates more to how the part would fit if accompanying a dancer. The piece is a 4-mallet vibraphone solo in E-Flat. It is primarily tonal with a some chromatic harmonies, however the chords are not written in functional order. It is a good piece for performers on vibraphone that are used to four-mallet technique but are not yet ready to approach higher level literature. The work helps prepare players for independence between hands. Pedaling and dampening are on the discretion of the performer, where they feel it is right in the music. Though it is a good piece to help students work on technique, it was not written as an educational work, but as my own attempt at a Baroque style with my harmonic language.

End of Day is from a series of 24 piano pieces called The Emerging Pianist. It is for piano students ready to move from beginners stage and looking for something a little more challenging. Unlike the other pieces in The Emerging Pianist, End of Day does not have an abridged version as it is a through-written piece and does not lend itself to one. It is suitable for more advanced students. As the left hand accompaniment features wide-spread arpeggios, it is recommended that careful pedaling is used to sustain those harmonies. 2015 Piano Contest The 2nd movement of the Sonata in Symmetry uses a slow-moving melody in double octaves, accompanied by contrary-motion, symmetrical and topographically equivalent arpeggios. The harmony varies from serene to splashing, clashing colours. Pedaling is indicated through, rather than having a general application, so the harmony can be kept under control. A rondo form, with a recurring theme and variations. Duration is about 8 1/2 mins. Advanced level, easier at slightly slower tempo. MP3 MIDI audio.

The extensive pedaling markings are only suggestions and the player should feel to modify as needed according to the instrument. Although this is only the very beginning of the original piece, it still offers the same fun challenges in phrasing, dynamics, voicing, arpeggios, pedaling, and chord progression comprehension.
