The first is Frogs and Toads and begins with sounds of a swamp before moving to an allegro section with lots of leaps. The second is Salamanders and makes use of a short chromatic idea that represents the salamanders swimming. A slower section, representing the endangerment of some species, follows. After a return to the opening material, a triumphant ending portrays the success of conservation efforts.
