Air favori de l’opéra La muette de Portici de D.F.E. Auber. Composed by Christian Rummel. Edited by Rainer Mohrs and Rudolf Mauz. This edition: Sheet music. (c) 2020 Schott Music GmbH & Co. KG, Mainz. Classical. Downloadable. 12 pages. Schott Music - Digital #Q53273. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q53273).

German • Danish.

Christian Rummel (also Chrétien Rummel), music educator, pianist, clarinettist, violinist and composer, was born in Gollachostheim, Franconia (Germany). He received his musical education in Mannheim. Rummel first worked as a military band director. Following his military career, he moved to Wiesbaden as he was offered a position as a music teacher there. Later he directed the court orchestra in Biebrich and following its dissolution, he directed the Wiesbaden theatre orchestra. On the occasion of a visit to Vienna, the publishers Schott recommended him to Ludwig van Beethoven (letter of 19th April 1824), with the request for ‘friendship and good will‘. He is said to have had an ‘urge for perfection through studying composition‘. This Schlummerlied is dedicated to Baron Breidbach-Bürresheim. The melody comes from the opera ‘La muette de Portici (The mute girl of Portici) by the composer Daniel-François-Esprit Auber (1782–1871), which was first performed at the Paris Opera House in 1828. The setting is a fishing village near Naples. The plot revolves around love, marriage, revolt against the Spanish occupying forces and, as if that were not enough, the volcano Vesuvius erupts at the end. The piece was published by Schott in 1832 (plate number 3733).

                    Come Scrooge (Ghost's Christmas)

Din-don

din-don

ci muoviamo in  libertà

e trasformati in pura luce

noi voliamo via da qua

sfioro la luna, immensa e bianca

solo lei non cambia mai

la sua  immortalità spaventa

è luce eterna su di noi

la mia casa è là

un punto lontano

e mi manca già

la mia realtà

e ora siamo qua

e l'angoscia mi attanaglia

quanto grigio e che male fa

ogni giorno una battaglia

in silenzio urlo dentro di me

la mia anima è già stanca e vorrei fuggir via

lì nascosta c'è una bimba

vuol venire via con me

e mi guarda impaurita

mi ha riconosciuta

sono io a una vita da qua

un istante che pare sia eterno

ci guardiamo negli occhi io e lei

la domanda inespressa

è sempre la stessa

mi chiede se ciò cambierà

vorrei solo abbracciarla e cullarla

sai l'istinto materno com'è?

ma il fantasma mi dice

non si interferisce

il passato rimanga com'è

E fa Din - Don

Din-Don

 la triste campana

apro  gli occhi e ascolto

la sua melodia lontana

è già l'una in punto

aspetto il mio fantasma

sono un fiore e come al vento

io gli ubbidirò

Vieni con me

no, aspetta non parlare

Gérard Souzay, French baritone, said of Jacques Leguerneyâ??s music: â??How does one describe this music which is, at the same time, classic and modern? It is pure, but colorfully nuanced; it speaks to the heart as well as the mind: at times calm; at times witty; wise, yet sensual. The music of Jacques Leguerney is un jardin à la française, both elegant and stylish.â?

Jacques Leguerney was born in Le Havre on 19 November 1906. His uncle bought his first piano and encouraged him to study and write music. He wrote chamber works, and took a few semesters of harmony with Nadia Boulanger, who arranged for a performance of his Epitaphe guerrière and Clair de lune in a concert organized by the Société musical indépendante at the Salle Pleyel. However, he decided not to continue his studies. He felt that his gift was natural and spontaneous, and that anyone who understood music should not have to do exercises to learn to compose.

In 1928, Jane Bathori took an interest in Leguerney, including two songs during her tour in Argentina, and the following year at the Salle Erard in Paris. In 1932, when his father died, Leguerney took over the family business and stopped composing until the outbreak of World War II. The period extending from the German occupation of France to the end of the 1940s constitutes one of the important periods of Leguerneyâ??s musical life. He began his extended song cycle, Poèmes de la Pléiade, and wrote many songs upon poems of Paul-Jean Toulet. He also continued to compose chamber music, including the Sonatine pour violon et piano, the â??Fantasie pour pianoâ? and the Quatuor à cordes en Ré.

An important year for Leguerney was 1943. He met musical colleagues who would become his major interpreters. These included Gérard Souzay as well as his half-sister, soprano Geneviève Touraine; pianist Jacqueline Robin (Bonneau), Pierre Bernac, and Francis Poulenc. Robin (Bonneau) particularly influenced Leguerneyâ??s style. His piano accompaniments were created specifically for her virtuosic and sensitive style of pianism. Bernac observed that Leguerney wrote melodies de pianiste.

In 1946, Leguerney created a ballet on the mythological story of Endymion. The premiere was at the Opéra de Paris on 27 July 1949, with choreography by Serge Lifar. The Opéra de Paris immediately commissioned a second work, which was La Vénus noire, based upon a short story by Prosper Mérimée. This ballet was never produced, due to disagreements with the choreographer. Leguerney became discouraged and this situation was to lead to the end of his interest in composing.

However, the years 1950-1954 brought Leguerney widespread recognition as he created his beautiful mélodie cycles including La Nuit, La Solitude (for piano as well as an orchestration), Le Paysage, and Le Carnaval, as well as the cantata Psaume LXII de David. Gérard Souzay requested many new works for his recitals and premiered La Nuit, Le Carnaval and

Can't Help Falling in Love is a 1961 song recorded by American singer Elvis Presley for the album Blue Hawaii (1961). It was written by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore, and George David Weiss and published by Gladys Music, Inc.[2] (The melody is based on Plaisir d'amour, a popular French love song composed in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini). The song was initially written for a woman as Can't Help Falling in Love with Him, which explains the first and third line ending on in and sin rather than words rhyming with you.

Can't Help Falling in Love was featured in Presley's 1961 film Blue Hawaii. During the following four decades, it has been recorded by numerous other artists, including Bob Dylan on his 1973 album Dylan, Tom Smothers, Swedish pop group A-Teens, and the British reggae group UB40, whose 1993 version topped the U.S. and UK charts.
