Composed by James Nathaniel Holland. Contemporary,Musical/Show. Score and parts. 484 pages. James Nathaniel Holland #4800547. Published by James Nathaniel Holland (A0.730492).

Advisory: Ballet story contains adult situation and themes. Not suitable for audiences or performers under the age of 18.

INDIVIDUAL INSTRUMENT PARTS 1 (Woodwinds and Brass). Piano Score, Full Orchestral Score, Individual Parts (Part 2) Sold Separately. American composer, James Nathaniel Holland, brings a ballet adapted from the first century Roman novel by Gaius Petronius (cir. 50 A.D.) to the stage. An entertaining ballet for adults (not suitable for general audiences under the age of 18), celebrating the male ballet dancer's physique and a laugh at our own human sexuality. The comedy is a romp of three gay protagonists and their adventures and misadventure in ancient Rome and their characters; an ex-gladiator, Enclopius, his young lover, Giton, and an upper class snob, Ascyltos. It should also be said that this ballet is not pure gratuitous vulgarity, there is a interweaving story containing a deeper message of real human relationships, the satire of ancient Roman archetypes, and a humorous glimpse into ancient Roman life that still rings true even 2,000 plus years later. Regardless of the subject matter, Holland's original music is fantastic tapestry of counterpoint, set in a sort of atonal-ism and heavy percussion, evoking a period of history no longer available to us. Although not all cues and counterpoint is contained here, this piano score is extremely useful for either a performance with 2 pianos and percussion and a dance company, a director's/choreographer's score, or a concise conductor's score, or rehearsal score. Measure numbers line up with the full score. An orchestral, performance CD is available for those company's on a budget.

Composed by Frederic Chopin. Arranged by Chris North. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 13 pages. Danetre Music #5330591. Published by Danetre Music (A0.831679).

The ability to say so much with so little is the mark of a true genius. This popular masterpiece is now arranged for brass quintet by Chris North. The music remains in the original key of A Major. Very short but quite a challenge. The upper part is scored for Trumpet in D. Comes with additional parts for 1st Trumpet in B-flat, 1st Trumpet in A (Piccolo), Horn in E-flat, Trombone in treble clef, and Bass in E-flat.  Advanced Intermediate level. Duration 0:50.

Composed by Chris North. Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Historic,Multicultural,World. Brass Band. 189 pages. Danetre Music #1046092. Published by Danetre Music (A0.1467794).

A Suite for British Style Brass Band which was chosen as the 4th Section Test Piece for the Butlins Mineworkers Brass Band Championships 2015 in Skegness, UK. Each movement is based on a famous French Impressionist painting as follows:

1. Boulevard Montmarte (Pissarro – 1897)
The Boulevard Montmartre is one of the four grand boulevards of Paris. This painting gave me the idea of writing a piece to portray a journey in a pony and trap through this busy street scene, starting out serenely in the suburbs, travelling through all the hustle and bustle, before trailing off into the distance.  An all pervasive Poulenc mouvement perpetual accompaniment style is present throughout this movement.

2. Lac d'Annecy  (Cézanne - 1896)
Although marked Waltz triste (sad waltz), the mood of the music is rather reflective in nature. This movement is the longest of the five and I would not recommend it being played too slow. Stylistically, it is a characteristic accordion piece, so touches of rubato here and there wouldn’t be out of keeping.

3. La Cathédrale de Rouen  (Monet - 1894)
This is the most difficult movement to play in respect of intonation, with lots of unisons, octaves and parallel intervals. The opening should be a true piano in order to allow the piece grow. The plainsong statements should be played smoothly and with plenty of air.

4. Les Parapluies  (Renoir - 1884)
A jaunty, playful theme leading in to a little fugue. A little low in places for the euphoniums and baritones. The music should skip along comfortably without rushing to allow the finer detail to come through.

5. Au Moulin Rouge  (Toulouse-Lautrec - 1895)
A lively tempo, always chasing forward without slackening. As in the previous movement, good dynamic contrast, swells and tight precise articulation. Lots of work for everyone, especially the baritones and euphoniums. Take care that the mf dynamic of the 'bass solo' is not overdone. If needs must, the siren whistle could be substituted with a referee's whistle, but I would like my duck call! The champagne cork 'pops' are really more visual than audible, however, it would be advisable for more of the band to join in,  as required.

By Peyton Williams-Morrison. By Peyton Williams-Morrison. Arranged by Peyton Williams-Morrison. Classical,Contemporary. Score. 7 pages. Peyton Williams-Morrison #744931. Published by Peyton Williams-Morrison (A0.1144592).

The idea for the beginning motif came when I was simply at a piano and began playing around with chords based on quintal harmonies, chords built off of perfect fifths instead of the usual major or minor third. When I wrote this piece, I thought of a scene in which a pair of beings, one with a masculine energy and the other feminine, were dancing quite literally in the clouds. In the B section, the pair holds one another tightly as they share memories of one another, some fond and some bittersweet, before returning to their waltz. In the D section, the feminine being goes her own way and dances solo with a sense of vigor and raw passion. She goes a little too hard and trips, falling on the ground. The masculine being comes to her aid and gets her back on her feet, returning to their waltz once more. By the end, the sun sets and they part ways, sharing a tender embrace and a kiss goodbye.

SKU: A0.533315

Composed by Jacques Leguerney. 20th Century,Standards. Score and parts. 48 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2343071. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533315).

French composer Jacques Leguerney (1906-1997) has been recognized for his
outstanding oeuvre of songs for voice and piano, mostly composed upon poems of the
French poets of the Pleiade. After his death, the Leguerney Estate decided to allow the
publication of his instrumental chamber music. These works, many of which were
written in his early years, are valuable contributions to the French chamber music
repertoire, representing the 20th century from its early years through World War II.
This Trio was composed in 1928, but not performed until December 3, 1932. The
respected French musicians Hortense de Sampigny (violinist) and Jacques Serres
(cellist) gave its first and, as far as we know, only performance along with
Leguerney’s friend and mentor, Thérèse Cahen, at the piano. The concert including
this work was organized by the Société Musicale Indépendante at the concert hall of
the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. A review, in the Journal des débâts, reads:
“We do not know this composer. Judging from his composition, whose variegated
style reminds us of [Cesar] Franck, of Maurice Ravel and of Spanish dances, he must
be quite young.â€
The same month as this performance, Leguerney’s father, Marcel Leguerney, died. At
this point, he interrupted his musical activity in order to take over his father’s business
to support his mother and sister. He was not able to resume musical composition until
1940, when the outbreak of the war led him to close the business.
This edition is based upon two autograph manuscript sources of the full score, as well
as copyist’s parts for the violin and ‘cello. His first completed sketch as well as his
final copy are in the Leguerney archives. The parts, made by a copyist, were obviously
used for a performance, and contain suggested phrasing, as well as bowings (which
we have not reproduced). We surmise that the violin and ’cello parts were used for the
first performance. We also think that Thérèse Cahen must have kept her piano score,
as the copyist's score of it was not found with the other parts.
We have added rehearsal numbers, and corrected a few notational mistakes in the
manuscript.
We would like to thank Jean Libermann, cellist, and Marion Larigaudrie, violinist,
for their advice in the preparation of this edition.
