An ecossaise is a lively energetic dance Scottish in origin mostly in 2/4 time often known for its quick dynamic contrasts. If both performers project the musical features of an ecossaise, a good performance will result.

Play at a bright and brisk tempo and a steady dance beat.  The arrangement is at the intermediate level.  Great for family, friends and recitals. It would also make for a great party song. Each time the main theme enters it is arranged differently; first legato, then staccato and finally in four part harmony. Staccato chords often support the melody. I think that students will enjoy working out the challenges in this arrangement and will feel rewarded for their efforts.  This arrangement is suitable especially for social gatherings and Christmas parties. It would also make a novel recital piece as well as a piece for personal enjoyment. I think adults would also enjoy this arrangement.

I also add some markings and articulations to direct the student to an effective performance.  A Beatles revival makes their music a great choice for student interest as well as recital material.

Sam, You Made the Pants Too Long is a very humorous song about a tailor that made a client a perfect outfit except for one minor detail, ..... the pants were too long!! This song follows the pattern of a Recitative-Aria. The first dozen bars are rather declamatory exclaiming the problem. This story is immediately elaborated in the shuffle rhythm of the song.This arrangement tries to capture the humor and irony of the lyrics. A good performance will require a lot of wit and dynamism. The Recitative can be done very freely, but the Song (Aria) need to keep a steady rhythm with a lot of punch at the climax points. Play the middle section of the song in a more relaxed manner and in the final repetition of the main theme be your most expressive. End strong. This arrangement therefore has a lot of teaching value making students use their imagination in crafting a good interpretation and telling a story.  Sam , You Made the Pants Too Long is a great novelty piece for a number that would especially stand out at a recital. It's also a great piece for a social gathering.

Eleanor Rigby is an example of a song that demonstrates The Beatles evolution of moving from standard rock and roll to more experimental and alternative sounds.  A song on the topics of depressing loneliness was not a common topic coming from rock bands in the 1960's.  However, being a teenager in the 60's, the minor melody caught my attention and became one of my favorite Beatles songs.All that said, this arrangement features staccato chords and a melody that alternates between staccato and legato phrases.  I wrote it at an intermediate level so it would be playable by teen piano students.  I think teen students that are beginning to expand emotionally will be attracted to Eleanor Rigby.  I see this arrangement being popular for family gatherings, and recitals and well as self-satisfaction.  Also, adult students and amateurs would be attracted to this arrangement.
