Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1102297 Composed by Daniel Burwasser. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 22 pages. Head and Stem #705702. Published by Head and Stem (A0.1102297). The three poems presented in Reflections were chosen for their varied dramatic and emotional content. The music shifts from peaceful solitude in the first song, to impending doom in the second, to dark sarcasm in the final song. REVIEWS “Little Fanfares for the Common Man and Woman†...composer Daniel Burwasser forms quite an acceptable union with the words in his Reflections, perhaps Ms. (Ilsa) Gilbert’s most searching and insightful poem of the evening sung with taste and assurance by mezzo soprano Oreen Zeitlin... --The Music Connoisseur, Vol.2, No.1 “I Hear America Singing†(On The Occasion of American Independence Day) ... (a) series of extraordinary songs. The music is sunshine brilliant, its rays are reflected in the crystalline notes of the piano (like Debussy’s songs). -- Haik (translated from the Armenian)For more information, go to: https://www.danielburwasser.com/To contact the composer directly, go to: danielburwasser9@gmail.comYoutube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@danielburwasser60.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1097212 Composed by Daniel Burwasser. Classical,Contemporary. Score and Parts. 140 pages. Head and Stem #701166. Published by Head and Stem (A0.1097212). The composition of Metamorphosis for chamber orchestra began in the Fall of 1985 and was completed in February of 1986 when the composer was just 26. This score represents a newly revised edition done in 2022. Every effort was made to maintain the original intention of the piece. Metamorphosis is a work that conveys the essence of transformation and change. It explores the emotional and sonic journey of a metamorphic process, capturing the stages of evolution, growth, and eventual emergence. Metamorphosis represents a brief early period in the composer’s output where a more dissonant harmonic language was used or where the tonality becomes more ambiguous. The composition begins with a sense of anticipation, using subtle and mysterious musical elements to represent the initial state before transformation. In the opening bars for instance, one hears a suggestion of the Scriabin “mystic†chord which also loosely serves as the basis of the piece.. A brief hat-tipping moment is where a few bars of the Ravel string quartet is paraphrased (listen for it!). The work then travels through various cycles and episodes and only hints at the chord along the way. For more information, go to: https://www.danielburwasser.com/To contact the composer directly, go to: danielburwasser9@gmail.comYoutube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@danielburwasser60.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1290458 Composed by Daniel Burwasser. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary,Romantic Period. 35 pages. Head and Stem #881172. Published by Head and Stem (A0.1290458). BACKSTORY ON “The Dog Had…†Variations The origin of “The Dog Had…†Variations†stems from a frantic voicemail received from the composer’s mother-in-law many years ago while on a visit exclaiming that our dog at the time, Pepper, a chocolate-brown and white springer spaniel, “HAD†an accident of explosive proportions on their basement rug and that we needed to “GET HOME†and deal with it immediately. At first the family was taken aback by the phone message, but ultimately it became a source of hilarity and shortly afterward, the composer’s wife created a rhyme from the message and a tune immediately sprung from that. This tune simply became something our family sung together periodically over many year’s time for amusement until now when the composer came up with the idea to set it to variations for string quartet. In this work, the tune is first heard in simple fashion in its entirety in the viola. Fragments of the tune follow in various guises. For example, the rhythm of the words “GET HOME†as well as “I’VE HAD IT†are prominent thematic ideas used in the piece. There are also a couple of moments where the music sounds weak and demented, but also places where it sounds like a domestic quarrel and the theme is further broken down into fragments. For more information, go to: https://www.danielburwasser.com/To contact the composer directly, go to: danielburwasser9@gmail.comYoutube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@danielburwasser60.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1021137 Composed by Daniel Burwasser. 20th Century. Score. 5 pages. Head and Stem #6065813. Published by Head and Stem (A0.1021137). Three Shades of Lenny or, Three Interpretations of the Same Scene, are a set of 3 minute-long piano pieces which the composer wrote on spec while he was being considered to compose the music for the film Raising Arizona in 1986. The character from the film, Lenny, is conjured up in a dream and is a menacing, mythical being who rides through rural Arizona on his motorcycle laying waste to everything in his path. Each short piece depicts a distinct personality or shadeof Lenny. One can hear a distorted version of the lullaby from the scene in the first piece, Dischord, a grooving Rock number in the second, and the sardonic Country Twang for the third piece. For more information, go to: https://www.danielburwasser.com/To contact the composer directly, go to: danielburwasser9@gmail.comYoutube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@danielburwasser60

Composed in 2023, these three songs are intended to be performed as a cycle. The opening song, “Walking Back from the Mailbox†expresses a subdued innocence and reflects a kind of “ceasing to be†as per the author. With the 2nd song, “There Must Be a Gateâ€, a stormier feeling is expressed but also hints at a resolution. The closing song, “Alternative Facts†represents struggle and where one can hear the character simply slipping away in the final bars. For more information, go to: https://www.danielburwasser.com/To contact the composer directly, go to: danielburwasser9@gmail.comYoutube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@danielburwasser60.

Flute,Vibraphone,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1089176 Composed by Daniel Burwasser. Contemporary. 8 pages. Head and Stem #693387. Published by Head and Stem (A0.1089176). Pavel Friedmann wrote the poem “The Butterfly†in 1942 in the Terezin Ghetto when he was 21. He was murdered in the Auschwitz extermination camp in 1944. Pavel was born in 1921 in Prague, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) to a Jewish father and a Christian mother. The Butterfly is a living symbol of the beauty of freedom. Such a free spirit could never have survived the confines of the Warsaw ghetto. But while the butterfly did fly away, the spirit and love of freedom it represented never left the souls of the Jews of the ghetto. They always prayed that one day the barbed wire would come down and the butterfly would reappear. The butterfly flutters there today, but many of the Jews who prayed for its return did not live to welcome it back. The first performance of The Butterfly was given on May 8, 1988 at JASA in New York City. The performers were: Andrew Bolotowsky, flute Glenn Rhian, vibraphone Mimi Stern-Wolfe, reciter There are at least two versions of the poem The Butterfly due to different translations. This work uses VERSION 2 as translated here: The last, the very last, So richly, brightly, dazzlingly yellow. Perhaps if the sun's tears would sing against a white stone... Such, such a yellow carried lightly way up high. It went away I'm sure because it wished to kiss the world goodbye. For seven weeks I've lived in here, penned up inside this ghetto, but I have found my people here. The dandelions call to me and the white chestnut candles in the court. Only I never saw another butterfly. That butterfly was the last one. Butterflies don't live in here, In the ghetto. For more information, go to: https://www.danielburwasser.com/To contact the composer directly, go to: danielburwasser9@gmail.comYoutube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@danielburwasser60.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1305526 Composed by Daniel Burwasser. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. 52 pages. Head and Stem #894974. Published by Head and Stem (A0.1305526). NOTES on The Waiting GameWaiting is hard. The Waiting Game is a three-movement work for brass quintet depicting three different emotional scenarios one might endure while waiting for something good to happen. The Waiting Game can be applied to various situations in life where there is no control over the timing of an event and one must simply wait for it to unfold. The first movement, “Anticipationâ€, the first phase, takes the listener through the ambivalent feelings of both dread and positivity depending on the day. The 2nd movement, “Exaspirationâ€, is slow and expressive, representing time dragging on. This is the most frustrating period of the waiting process. The final movement, “Jubilationâ€, is celebratory and depicts a hopeful outcome from all the emotional hardships of waiting.--Daniel Burwasser, October, 2023For more information, go to: https://www.danielburwasser.com/To contact the composer directly, go to: danielburwasser9@gmail.com.
