The good news is that once these sections are learned the first time around, they are repeated a few times so that the piece has continuity and becomes enjoyable to play.

It could be called a tone poem with lots of motion, including an assortment of chord progession settings that make the themes into a kaleidescope of musical colors. There are also some fugal treatments of the theme, including an inverted motif. It's an advanced intermediate piece owing to the number of accidentals, dynamic changes and the counterpoint type movement in the instrument sections. This arrangement pays homage to the flavor of the original by using a traditional chamber wind quintet for the opening measures. This arrangement of it is one of the most hauntingly beautiful. It has an ethereal sound to it that culminates in a glorious conclusion. It was written using a more linear approach, rather than a vertical one. That is, the music is based less on a chord progression and more on separate “melodies” throughout, more like medieval and early Baroque music. For that reason, some of the intervals and staggered entrances may seem a bit peculiar. There are also a number of instances where the lyrics don’t “line up”; this is another reflection of a much older style of writing choral music. Different parts have the melody at times.

It has very unusual voicing; the music is not based on any chord progression, but rather on independent, interweaving melodic themes. The violas have the melody for a while. And, a couple of times the second violin part is above the soprano part. It is a very contemplative presentation of the carol.This piece is loosely classified as an Advanced Intermediate skill level. The notes aren’t difficult, and it’s relatively slow, but the intervals may be a bit tricky to play in tune.

Lush harmonies and gentle motion help portray the song's look at the future that includes the hope of heaven for those who believe. This arrangement has a few challenges but is still fun to sing.  It has simplified a number of passages from the pop solo version to make it possible for a choir to sing them together.  And, there is a separate piano score with the same measure numbers and a few lyric cues.
