Composed by Traditional Irish. Arranged by David McKeown. Celtic,Folk,Holiday,Irish,Multicultural,Wedding,World. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #6013279. Published by David McKeown (A0.588698).

The Londonderry Air is among the best loved melodies of Ireland. This beautiful version is arranged as a duet for one Clarinet and one Bass Clarinet.

The Londonderry Air was first collected and notated in the mid-nineteenth century in County Londonderry in the North of Ireland, however, the origins of the melody remain unknown. In 1913 the English writer Frederic Weatherley set his poem Danny Boy to the melody. There are many other settings of the Londonderry Air, with various lyrics and in musical styles from orchestral to brass band to jazz, but Danny Boy remains the best known.

Londonderry Air is simply arranged in accessible keys and over a range best suited to the instruments. The melody is played twice with a key change and different accompaniment on the second verse and is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of a little over three minutes, this version of Londonderry Air is perfect for recitals and concert performance. Composed by John Redmon, Jr., and Thomas J. Dawson. Arranged by John P. Redmon Music (ASCAP)/adm. by Reaching Records. Contemporary,Folk,Jazz. 5 pages. John P. Redmon Music (ASCAP)/adm. by Reaching Records #6247623. Published by John P. Redmon Music (ASCAP)/adm. by Reaching Records (A0.975461).

O Danny Boy appears on the album Honoring Louis Armstrong featuring Louis Armstrong Impressionist John Redmon and accompanied by The Thomas J. Dawson, Jr. iOrchestra.

The original recording starts this beloved Irish tune with a haunting and emotionally-charged monologue (narrated by Redmon and written by Lorraine Coke-Clark) that draws on the cords of love and grief through loss.

This piano/vocal arrangement has an unexpected key change mid-chorus that heightens the emotional impact of the lyrics.

This version of O Danny Boy is perfect for traditional jazz events, Irish-music themes, military honors, and funerals.

The recorded version is just a little over 5 minutes.

John Redmon and Thomas Dawson, Jr. are both ASCAP affiliates.
