String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1211524 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. 37 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #809135. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.1211524). In 2021 I dedicated SQ15 to Dmitri Shostakovich because ... he wrote fifteen string quartets.  Then I dedicated SQ17 to Heitor Villa-Lobos because he wrote seventeen.  What happened to SQ16?   We all know that Beethoven wrote sixteen string quartets.  But, I am not a fan of his work in general, and I did not find anything inspiring among his string quartets.  So, instead I dedicated SQ16 ... Música Callada (2022) to Federico Mompou.  His music I love!In my search for a string quartet inspiration I discovered that Darius Milhaud wrote eighteen string quartets.  I knew he spent a few years in Brazil as a diplomat, and I have always admired the Brazilian influences in his own music, like the twelve-movement work for solo piano, Saudades do Brasil.† So it became obvious that SQ18 is dedicated in memoriam to Darius Milhaud.SQ18 ... Hommage à Darius Milhaud (2023) is in six movements.I.  Très lent ... Vif, très rythmé   TRIOII.  LentIII.  Très animé   TRIOIV.  FunèbreV.  Très vifVI.  Très lent    TRIO.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862537 Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 5 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2033827. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862537). Darius Milhaud was NOT a member of the insider's group of Old Guard French composers, epitomized by Debussy and Ravel. Ravel had usupred Debussy's place as the pre-eminent modernist, and he rightly understood it was the duty of the next generation to rebel against his own work, and find their own ways and voices. Hence, Les Six was formed to accomplish this, just as Ravel's Les Apaches, ( not a Native American meaning, but a general reference to being musical warriors) had, by turns, admired, undermined, and then surpassed Debussy. The music here uses Milhaud's best-known contribution to modernity, bi-tonality. It takes the form of arpeggiated augmented major 7th chords played against each other: as the relationship between the chords comes to the tritone, each iteration slows down, but only to De-Emphasize the stark contrast, rather than bring it out. A second section uses mirrored, symmetrical patterns in each hand. The finale concludes with plain triads juxtaposed in a bi-tonal fashion, with the same contrary motion towards the tritone using a ritard and diminuendo. Approx. running time is 4 mins 30 secs. Easy to play, easy to read, not as easy to hear! Pedaling is fully indicated throughout. Debussy never used bi-tonality, and Ravel hinted at it a few times, but it was Milhaud's stock-in-trade. We'll see you on the Roof, with the Cows! Thanks for listening to ( and buying, and playing?! )these three updated French bon-bons. MBB.

Harp,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1337655 By Aharonian/safonova. By Darius Milhaud. Arranged by Kevin Frecker. 20th Century,Classical,Latin. 28 pages. Kevin Frecker #923310. Published by Kevin Frecker (A0.1337655). Brazileira is the third movement of Scaramouche, a suite for 2 pianos by Darius Milhaud. This arrangement for 2 harps and piano retains most of the original Piano 1 for the arranged piano part, and the 2 harps split the original Piano 2. The exception is the lyrical middle part, where the parts are reversed. A distinctive feature of this arrangement is the addition of a percussive technique in the Harp 2 part, where the performer prepares a muting strip to insert into the strings and then plays these strings as a glissando with the distinctive 3 3 2 samba rhythm of the main melody. The accompanying YouTube video demonstrates this technique.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1353972 Composed by Darius Milhaud. Arranged by John M. Laverty. 20th Century,Chamber. 222 pages. Zephyrwindmusic.com #938691. Published by zephyrwindmusic.com (A0.1353972). Edited by John M. Laverty. First published and ï¬rst performed in 1923, Darius Milhaud’s La Création du Monde is in many ways a cutting-edge work. Heavily influenced by American jazz at the time, it features alto saxophone as the main soloist. It also incorporates an awkwardly written percussion part that is an early example of a scored drum set part. This new edition includes an updated percussion part that is scored in a more appropriate manner for today’s musician.
