The story of Salut d'Amour began in the summer of 1888, when composer Edward Elgar was leaving for a holiday in the countryside with a friend. On his way out of town, Elgar received the gift of a love poem from his future wife Alice, and he reciprocated in the only way composers can: by writing her a song in return! Once he returned from his trip, he presented her with his song and also proposed to her -- how could she say no? Elgar submitted his work for publication later that year, and it has since become one of his most popular and beloved works. And now, Salut d'Amour gains new life in this Cellobat arrangement for your string quartet! Originally written for a wedding ceremony, this chart maintains the beautiful lyricism, intriguing harmonies, and lovely rhythmic flow of the original; it's sure to tug on your audience's heartstrings.
