Organ - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.943027 Composed by Lewis A. Kocher. Christian,Christmas,Contemporary,Sacred. Score. 5 pages. Lewis A. Kocher #4614049. Published by Lewis A. Kocher (A0.943027). THE KING SHALL COME WHEN MORNING DAWNSPlaying time: Appx. 1:40 Services: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Christ The KingBased on the old carol, this short Advent work for pipe organ (manuals only) begins with a plaintive opening and leads to a triumphal close. The opening theme, which becomes the ostinato, is introduced on soft reeds in order to give a feel of caravans across the desert...an image not only indicative of the journey into Bethlehem, but also foreshadowing the Epiphany journey of another famous group of travelers. With its large triumphal finish, the music could be ideal for a short processional, prelude, or postlude.

String Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.534672 Composed by Gregory Sullivan Isaacs. Contemporary,Jewish. Score and parts. 29 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #5775635. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534672). The concept for this piece is to restore the voice of millions silenced by the horrific experience we now call the Holocaust, through the sounds of musical instruments that survived. One thing is clear: the genocide of the Jews was an appalling blow to the human race; one that left a permanent stain on both the perpetrators and enablers, those who stood by without uttering a word of protest. A terrible Night descended upon the world, yet, the breaking Dawn that followed was glorious, indeed. The price to save civilization in the 20th century was appallingly high. Although we must remain ever vigilant, the Jewish people today have a proud homeland—and their magnificent contributions to humanity are universally celebrated. The piece opens with the descent of the seemingly benign curtain of night. Premonitions arise but the darkness continues to descend, over and over again. Finally, chaos ensues and runs its ghastly course before dissipating. The inevitable dawn begins to break, although the curtain of night continues to threaten. Dawn is characterized by two contrasting melodies. One, a stalwart tune that marches ever forward, while the second, more questioning tune appears independently. After their separate statements, the two powerfully join forces to bring this work to a hopeful close, followed by a quiet “Amen.†This item is the score only. The parts are available on rental from the publisher.

Some of the pieces are solo piano and others feature duets with Mitch Iimori on English horn, oboe, and guitar (but not all at the same time!). The two musicians are obviously exceptionally comfortable and in tune with each other, and the results can be stunning. Very classical in scope and structure, the music is reflective of the natural surroundings of Ms Stevens’ home in the Colombia Gorge region of northern Oregon. The first eight of the fourteen tracks make up the Seasons Suite, a group of lyrical compositions inspired by the various times of year in a remote area of eastern Oregon. The other six pieces also have themes of nature and serenity. The Seasons Suite begins with Colors Change, obviously about the transition of summer into fall, but also about the concept of change as we grow. Reflective and subdued, the interplay between Stevens’ piano and Iimori’s oboe is effortless and flowing. Autumn Wind picks up the pace a bit, but continues the easy flow, bringing images of leaves swirling in the ceaseless wind of that area. Signs of Winter is a bit darker and more mysterious. Iimori is a big fan of Paul McCandless, and that musician’s influence is very strongly heard in these first three pieces - a very good thing! In Clouds, Iimori switches from oboe to English horn. This duet with the piano is a dramatic musical depiction of the gathering clouds and anticipation of a coming thunder storm. I really like it a lot! Snow is tranquility set to music. Sparrow’s Song brings us to the beginnings of spring - the freshness in the air, and the joyful songs of birds in the yard. July reflects the laziness of a hot summer day. Season’s Reprise brings together the themes from the various seasons, creating a lovely closing to the Suite. On Summit, Iimori trades his woodwinds for guitar in a gentle, sweeping duet with the piano. Waning Star is a gorgeous piano solo that has a peaceful grace and quiet serenity - a favorite. Reach For the Stars is a piano solo that has an uplifting sense of moving forward and reaching out. Dawn closes the CD with a warm and soothing confection. The piano is accompanied by light percussion, bass, and washes of synth strings. Full of hope and optimism without being sugarcoated, this piece is spellbinding in its gentle way.

Piano,Trombone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.927663 Composed by Joseph Hollings. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and part. 21 pages. Joseph Hollings Publishing #6682863. Published by Joseph Hollings Publishing (A0.927663). Awaken the dawn was written for and dedicated to Shachar Israel, Assistant Principal Trombone of the Cleveland Orchestra. Mr. Israel commissioned the work and worked closely with the composer during the composition process. The piece is demanding for both trombonist and pianist.Naming the piece was relatively straightforward, as the composer intended from the outset to use the English translation of the Hebrew word and Mr. Israel's first name 'Shachar' (in Hebrew, 'shachar' means 'dawn'). The title, taken from a passage in the Book of Psalms, is intended to represent the energy and beauty present in the few moments before dawn breaks. The piece begins with a lyrical trombone line, floating over a minimalistic piano accompaniment. Making the most of the trombone's pitch and dynamic range, the trombone becomes increasingly agitated and the piano accompaniment more fragmented. A frenetic passage leads into a fast, aggressive section before returning to the opening melodies.Mr. Israel recorded the piece in 2018 at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio with the marvelous Martha Locker on piano. The recording was produced by the Grammy award-winning Elaine Martone. The recording is currently available on Amazon, Spotify and Apple Music.DURATION: approx. 7:30Joseph Hollings is a member of ASCAP.
