SKU: A0.1008462

By Dawn Featuring Tony Orlando. By Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown. Arranged by Kirk Schmidt. Contemporary. Score and parts. 46 pages. Kirk Schmidt #4822019. Published by Kirk Schmidt (A0.1008462).

This is a big band chart of the hit made famous by Tony Orlando and Dawn. It was written for and played by the Larry Elgart Orchestra. It has been expanded to 4 trombones with piano added to the rhythm section. The first 3 choruses are in a 2-beat feel for the dancin' crowd, followed by 3 choruses for the band in a swingin' 4/4 feel, ending with a Buddy Rich type shuffle. The 2nd trumpet has the ad lib solo. It's a fun chart for the audience AND the band.

By Dawn Featuring Tony Orlando. By Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown. Arranged by Rita Arendz. 20th Century,Contemporary,Patriotic,Pop. Brass Band. 54 pages. Rita Arendz #727554. Published by Rita Arendz (A0.1126911).

The Yellow Ribbon representing a person's test or trial while they wait for their loved ones to return home has been around for over 400 years. It was prevalent during the English Civil War during the mid-1600s and again by the US Calvary in the late 1800s. The 1972 chart Tie A Yellow Ribbon by Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown may have been influenced by the older She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, first copyrighted in 1917 by George Norton. Or maybe the 1949 John Wayne movie by the same title. The impact of Tony Orlando's cover of Tie A Yellow Ribbon pushed the symbolism into the public eye after its release in 1973, especially in light of Vietnam and the Iran Hostage Crisis. Today it represents various support groups in different countries; from AIDS to Cancer, to Suicide Prevention, and supporting troops, with a major resurgence in use during the War in Afghanistan as a result of 9/11. This setting for British Style Brass Band is a wonderful addition to the repertoire list for concerts supporting many great causes. Duration ~3:00. 54 pages.

SKU: A0.959050

By Dawn Featuring Tony Orlando. By Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown. Arranged by Mike Spiller. Contemporary. Score and parts. 9 pages. Platypus Music #4883337. Published by Platypus Music (A0.959050).

The song was written by Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown. It was recorded by 'Dawn' and became a wordwide hit in 1973. In 2008 it was ranked the 37th biggest song of all time. The arrangement is for string quintet/orchestra and is an intermediate level arrangement due to the syncopated rhythms and some 4th position playing for the cellist. Also, double stop chords. Violin 1, viola and cello all get to play the tune. The pizzicato double bass part creates a lilting jazz feel.
