String quartet - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q3175 Composed by Peteris Vasks. This edition: score and parts. Downloadable, Score and parts. Duration 32 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q3175. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q3175). The Latvian composer Peteris Vasks, who is known for his atmospheric pieces for string orchestra, “Cantabileâ€, “Musica dolorosa†and “Voicesâ€, is concentrating increasingly on chamber music: his latest works are the “Partita†for cello and piano, the “Fifth String Quartet†and a piano quartet. Vasks has brought elements of ancient and folk traditions in Latvian music into his compositions. While most of his works have programmatic titles relating to natural processes, Vasks is not concerned with a poetic homage to Nature, nor with depiction of landscape as an aesthetic ideal. The main themes which Vasks explores in his most recent musical work are the reciprocal relationship between man and Nature, the beauty of life and the impending ecological and moral destruction of these values.

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1201464 By Vessela Stoyanova. By Vessela Stoyanova. Folk,Multicultural,World. Score and parts. 89 pages. Vessela Stoyanova #798931. Published by Vessela Stoyanova (A0.1201464). “Mountain Goats and Other Creatures†was Commissioned by Rachel Jayson and the Lexington High School Symphony Orchestra. It was inspired by the folk music of my native land of Bulgaria, informed by my experience as a rock musician, reimagined through the lense of my place inside of a community of like-minded artists and musicians, where I have made my real home today. The first movement - Mountain Goats - is a sort of celebration of renewal, promise, and hope. It represents the tenacious will of grass growing through the snow of early spring, the powerful longing for human connection, the warmth of the sun against your skin on a bright chilly day. It carries both the pristine optimism of youth, and the nervous energy of trying something for the first time. The second movement - Samodivi - in contrast is dark, heavy and full of passion and desire. According to Balkan myths, Samodivi are gorgeous nymphs who live in the woods and often seduce men with their beautiful song and dance. They are feared and envied at the same time. The music of the second movement represents the mysterious dark forest at night - lower strings create the moss under your feet, higher strings use extended techniques to simulate the noise of branches clicking the wind, a few soloists represent different creatures - both real and imaginary - scurry through the woods above your head. Then you hear the lone song of a Samodiva in the distance, your heart is beating hard, your steps are leading you straight towards the call against your better judgement. It is the ancient story of fear and desire, of self control and complete abandon. You, the listener, become witness to a wild dance, fire in the woods, snakes in their long blond hairs, slender bodies dressed in white clouds dancing to an imaginary beat.  Then it all ends abruptly and you left to wonder: Was it real? Did I see it? Am I safe? The third and final movement of the piece is based on a popular rhythmic folk dance in Bulgaria called Kopanitsa, while the melody creates a fugue between the different voices of the orchestra. The Kids are the little of the mountain goats - free to frolic high above tree line, above any human traces, as close to the clouds as one can get and still be touching the ground below. They are carefree, daring, and somewhat naive, yet safe under the watchful gaze of their parent. The movements ends in cascading repetitions of a musical motif in 5/8 representing the relentless passing of time or at least our perception of it.

String Ensemble,String Trio Cello,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.802693 Composed by Anon. or Fernando Sor, or Narciso Yepes. Arranged by Shigeo Ida & Peet du Toit. Contemporary. Score and parts. 6 pages. Peet du Toit #6513457. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802693). Romance Anónimo (Anonymous Romance) is a piece for guitar, also known as Estudio en Mi de Rubira (Study in E by Rubira), Spanish Romance, Romance de España, Romance de Amor, Romance of the Guitar, Romanza and Romance d'Amour among other names. Its origins and authorship are currently in question. It is suspected of originally being a solo instrumental guitar work, from the 19th century. It has variously been attributed to Antonio Rubira, David del Castillo, Francisco Tárrega, Fernando Sor, Daniel Fortea, Miguel Llobet, Antonio Cano, Vicente Gómez, and Narciso Yepes. The Anónimo (anonymous) part of its name has been incorporated over the years due to this uncertainty. The question of authorship has probably been propagated by three main reasons: the lack of claim by its true author, the desire to avoid paying copyright fees, and the desire of publishing companies to claim the lucrative copyright of this world-famous piece. The style of the piece is that of the Parlour music of the late 19th century in Spain or South America, having a closed three-part form: the first in the minor key and the second being in the major key, with the third being a restatement of the first.Narciso Yepes (1927 - 1997) interpreted and is listed as the author of the piece in René Clément's 1952 film Jeux interdits (Forbidden Games). The popularity of the film gave the piece worldwide fame. Yepes currently has the copyright of this composition in Spain although recordings and manuscripts of this song predate 1952. Newer publications show Yepes as the arranger and the piece being of anonymous authorship, or authored by Fernando Sor.The official statement from Narciso Yepes and the Yepes heirs is that Narciso Yepes, being a young boy, originally composed the piece for his mother when he was about seven years old (c.1934) and soon thereafter performed it between acts at the Teatro Guerra, in Lorca, Spain. Some time later, he recounts, when he was thirteen years old he attended a performance in Valencia and heard his composition performed by another guitarist, who indicated the authorship as anonymous. Yepes contends that the melody had been plagiarized (with some changes to the arrangement) by someone who, he assumes, must have attended that first performance. However, Yepes was born 1927 and cannot be the author of the work, since it was already recorded in 1900 and published before 1925 (possibly 1913) by J.A. MEDINA e HIJO; and in 1919 in themethod of Pedro Mascaró y Reissig, etc. Vicente Gomez (1911-2001) published it and performed it in 1941 in the Hollywood movie Blood and Sand with Tyrone Powerand Rita Hayworth, also attributing authorship of the song to himself. Anyway, the piano arrangement of the brilliant Shigeo Ida caught my attention and I decided to rework it somewhat into this trio for strings. Enjoy!

String orchestra - Grade 1 - Digital Download SKU: IZ.OMW172 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Marsha Chusmir Shapiro. Score and Parts. 26 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #OMW172. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.OMW172). 9 x 12 in inches.Feel the Spirit is an arrangement of four pre-Civil War spirituals which were sung by slaves inAmerica. These wereChristian songs which described Bible stories (Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho) or about living with the spiritof God (Every Time I Feel the Spirit). Sometimes the spirituals described the hardships of slavery (NobodyKnows the Trouble I've Seen). Most interestingly, some spirituals had hidden meanings. In Swing Low, SweetChariot it appears that the singer is talking about dying and going to heaven, but in actuality, home refers to aplace of freedom, and crossing the river Jordan means overcoming the obstacles to freedom.
