Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.891899 Composed by Dietrich Buxtehude. Arranged by Stephen Davies. Baroque. 27 pages. Stephen Davies #3469898. Published by Stephen Davies (A0.891899). Each strand extracted from the Organ score of Dietrich Buxtehude's Praeludium in G Minor (BuxWV148), gives for an altogether atmospheric and evocative edge to the Saxophone Quartet, especially when performed in a descent sized venue. Don't forget that Bach walked 250 miles from his home town of Arnstadt to see old Buxtehude play in Lubeck! That must have been some gig!! stephendavies51@btinternet.com

Baroque,Concert,Graduation,Standards. Score and parts. 22 pages. Piper Publications #6113219. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811770). This Trio Sonata is an arrangement of the first of the seven opus 1 sonatas for violin, viola da gamba & continuo composed in 1694. When most composers at this time would compose a trio sonata with all the movements in the same key, Buxtehude composed the movements of this sonata alternately in F major and D minor. The movements are: Vivace - Lento, Allegro, Adagio, Andante, Grave and Presto. Written for players of equal ability and of intermediate standard and above, the sonata has been carefully edited, additions are shown in parentheses ( ) or dashed lines.Buxtehude was famous during his lifetime for his skill as an organist and composer. Both Handel and J.S. Bach travelled to hear him play (at different times). Bach stayed to study with him for three months. Handel departed after one night when he learned that Buxtehude (who wanted to retire) was looking for an organist to succeed  him, a condition of taking the post being the necessity to marry Buxtehude's eldest daughter who was some years older than Handel.

Baroque,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Traditional. 24 pages. Jmsgu3 #724841. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1124099). Toccata BuxWV 155 in D Minor for String Quartet. Score: 12 pages. Duration: 5:38Dieterich Buxtehude (c. 1637–1707) was a German organist and composer of the Baroque era. He is known for his large-scale works, including the Toccata in B flat major (BuxWV 155), which is one of his most famous pieces. The Toccata was composed in 1690 and is a virtuosic display of the organ’s power and range. The piece begins with a long and stately introduction, which is followed by a lively and energetic fugue. The fugue is then repeated, but with different variations. This creates an exciting contrast and a sense of musical momentum. The piece ends with a short, chromatic passage which leads to a triumphant conclusion. The Toccata is one of Buxtehude’s most popular and beloved works and it has been performed and recorded by many renowned musicians. It is a testament to the great skill and creativity of Buxtehude, and is a beloved example of Baroque music.
