Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.944867 Composed by Craig Peaslee. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Ragtime. Score. 29 pages. Craig Peaslee Music #5221633. Published by Craig Peaslee Music (A0.944867). Highly influenced by John Cage, 8'66 features compositional practices explored by Cage.Song of the Talpa People calls for the pianist to play the movement while attempting to prevent any of the piano hammers to fall (hit the strings, causing sound); however, due to the tempo marking, human error, and other factors, it is a certainty that the hammers will fall - we simply do not know when, where, and how many of these falls will happen on any given performance. Cage was a pioneer of indeterminant music, a single piece of music that can sound wildly different each time it is heard. In Funeral March for a Deaf Man the written music was lined up directly to a section of Cage's Lecture on Nothing so that whenever a syllable from the speech would be spoken the pianist plays the note(s) that correspond at the same time. The finale, In Futurm, allows for the pianist to perform the piece as originally written. The titles for the three movements are taken from compositions of silent music that predate Cage's 4'33 1. Funeral March for the Obsequies of a Dead Man (1897) by Alphonse Allais (1854-1905). 2. In Gaston Leroux's 1903 novel La Double Vie de Theophraste Longuet, silent concerts are given by the Talpa people. 3. In futurum (1919) by Edwin Schul

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1040537 By Alan Wagstaff. By Alan Wagstaff. Arranged by Alan Wagstaff. Celtic,Folk,Irish,Traditional. Octavo. 36 pages. Alan Wagstaff #645329. Published by Alan Wagstaff (A0.1040537). This haunting, new song, in the mixolydian mode (Bb), is in the Irish tradition. It is written for a female choir (SSAA) with an additional solo part; the accompaniment is for harp, accordion, flute, fiddle, and bass. This song was inspired by J.M. Synge's 1904 play 'Riders of the Storm' and quotes a line from it. The chorus quotes from the Irish version of 'Fhir a Bhartain' a song written in the late 19th century by Sìne NicFhionnlaigh of Tong, Lewis, Scotland. Fear A Bháta The Boatman A fhir a bháta is na horó eile Man of the boat and no one else. A fhir a bháta is na horó eile Man of the boat and no one else. A fhir a bháta is na horó eile Man of the boat and no one else. Mo shoraid slán leat gach áit a dtéid thú. My safe blessing with you everywhere you go. Lyrics O, Bryan McCauley the boats are still moored. and down in Kilronan only ghosts are aboard. The calico is furled and the tide is still low, so rest a while longer, till the time comes to go. It’s the life of a young man to be fishing far from shore. For there’s scant other work on the wild Inishmore. Fhir a bharta na horo – fhir a bharta is-na eile. Mo shor slan leat gach ait a dteid thu. The herring are sleeping and safe from the net. So rest my fisher lad - do not rise yet. The hillcrests of Galway are scarce tinged with red. O, sleep a while longer and keep to your bed. It’s the life of a young man to be fishing far from shore. For there’s scant other work on the wild Inishmore. Fhir a bharta na horo – fhir a bharta is-na eile. Mo shor slan leat gach ait a dteid thu. The cold-hearted Ocean knows nothing of men; it takes them or leaves them, with no heed where or when. The candles are out in the homes round the Bay, so stay in my arms, love, till the first light of day. It’s the life of a young man to be fishing far from shore. For there’s scant other work on the wild Inishmore. Fhir a bharta na horo – fhir a bharta is-na eile. Mo shor slan leat gach ait a dteid thu.

Violin Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.1014257 Composed by Michael Matlock. Contemporary,Folk. 12 pages. Michael Matlock #6853877. Published by Michael Matlock (A0.1014257). The World Is Too Big is a song cycle initially written for a performance at Earth Day 2017 by the TangleTown Trio. The song cycle has four tunes. Mother Earth, the first, is a humorous attempt to answer the question of what our relationship is with nature. Next is What Do You See When You See The Mountains? which asks us to look beyond the thing we’re looking at and see what it really means. This is followed by Behold The Mighty River, an Ogden Nash-y poem that says the opposite. Finally, the cycle ends with If I Had Just One Complaint, a total rip-off of a Stephen Sondheim tune I’m sure. Range is not specified, but this was origianlly performed by mezzo-soprano.This is *just* the violin book, FYI. If you want the full score, make sure you are looking at The World is Too Big with nothing appended to the title.

French Horn,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.747029 By Dizzy Gillespie. By Dizzy Gillespie and Frank Paparelli. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Jazz. Score and part. 12 pages. Keith Terrett #5899751. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.747029). A great sounding arrangement of A Night in Tunisia arranged for Oboe & Piano, Horn players will love this!A jazz solo is written out for you, if you wish you can improvise on the given chord symbols!A Night in Tunisia is a musical composition written by Dizzy Gillespie around 1941–42, while Gillespie was playing with the Benny Carter band. It has become a jazz standard. It is also known as Interlude. Gillespie called the tune Interlude and said some genius decided to call it 'Night in Tunisia'. He said the tune was composed at the piano at Kelly's Stables in New York. He gave Frank Paparelli co-writer credit in compensation for some unrelated transcription work, but Paparelli had nothing to do with the song. A Night in Tunisia was one of the signature pieces of Gillespie's bebop big band, and he also played it with his small groups. In January 2004, The Recording Academy added the 1946 Victor recording by Gillespie to the Grammy Hall of Fame.On the album A Night at Birdland Vol. 1, Art Blakey introduced his 1954 cover version with this statement: At this time we'd like to play a tune [that] was written by the famous Dizzy Gillespie. I feel rather close to this tune because I was right there when he composed it in Texas on the bottom of a garbage can. The audience laughs, but Blakey responds, Seriously. The liner notes say, The Texas department of sanitation can take a low bow.The complex ostinato bass line in the A section is notable for avoiding the standard walking bass pattern of straight quarter notes, and the use of oscillating half-step-up/half-step-down chord changes (using the Sub V, a tritone substitute chord for the dominant chord) gives the song a unique, mysterious feeling. The B section is notable for having an unresolved minor II-V, since the chord progression of the B section is taken from the B section of the standard Alone Together, causing the V chord to lead back into the Sub V of the A section.Like many of Gillespie's tunes, it features a short written introduction and a brief interlude that occurs between solo sections - in this case, a twelve-bar sequence leading into a four-bar break for the next soloist.

Tuba Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.991804 Composed by Jason Allie. 20th Century,Contemporary,Romantic Period,World. Individual part. 14 pages. Joaba LLC #3109635. Published by Joaba LLC (A0.991804). DescriptionA delightful, intermediate-advanced level work suitable for encouraging students, hobbyists and professionals to improve or show off their performance skills. This multifarious work grips the audience with a variety of moods, styles and affects. A great recital piece or encore piece to show off the melodiousness, harmoniousness and vibrancy of the tuba. Please send feedback, praises and more to contact@joaba.com. Total Duration: ~10 to 15 minutes depending upon taking the repeats and varying the tempo.Performance Notes Introduction This piece boldly explores the Bâ™ Major key and related tonalities.  It yields exciting moves to tease the audience’s appetite for the real treats of the variations. The key to performing this piece is to feel and emphasize the half-note rhythm and play the phrases against it.  Dynamics are up to the performer. Theme & Variations The delight for the performer and listener is to emphasize the unique traits of each variation while celebrating their similarities. A great audience toe-tapper (mostly!). Each variation’s title indicates how to play it; further notes below. 1 PLAYFUL Stretches the theme’s rhythms for a friendly teasing. 2 MAJESTIC This variation indulges in the compound meter exploration of the theme.  Emphasize the linear lines and the ornamental notes will shine. 3 BRIGHT Practice the intervallic phrasing until you can hear what note follows which.  Then bang it around for a jaunty, vigorous performance. 4 AGILE Practice slow then add speed.  The luscious 16th notes energize the phrases and give them wit. 5 TEARFUL Let the notes do the work-don’t try too hard. 6 FESTIVE Must use repeats.  A gigue that washes away the previous variation’s mood.  Always emphasize the one-two bounce feel throughout. 7 TREMENDOUS Molto expressivo.  This A section is anguish; B is reflective, loving, and then tender. 8 CHICKEN Chicken chickens chicken.  Chicken! 9 FANTASTICAL No repeats: just a glorious monstrosity of extraordinariness.  Get ugly. 10 MARCH Must use repeats.  If you clip the dotted notes and focus on the one-two, one-two march rhythm, the melody will soar. 11 BLUES Be sure to swing it and adjust the tempo so the bluesy sound comes through. 12 A CARNIVAL NEAR VENICE Akin to variation 2.  Practice it slow and build up speed.  Nothing more than the theme with a compound voice in the upper register. 13 FUGUE Distinguish the two lines and it’ll be like playing two tubas simultaneously.  Practice slow to learn to differentiate the two voices and it’ll be a dazzler. 14 FAREWELL A bittersweet mixture of bold thankfulness for the joyous discoveries and sadness for having to say goodbye.  Be aggressive with the arpeggios for the harmony to resound.

Easy Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1033516 Composed by Lynne Cox. Children,Contest,Festival,Instructional. Score. 4 pages. Lynne Coc Publications #638816. Published by Lynne Coc Publications (A0.1033516). Green, in Lynne Cox's new series, Box of Paints, is a secondary color that results from mixing the two primary colors, yellow and blue. Green symbolizes nature, the environment, harmony, and tranquility, as well as growth and renewal-as in the green growth of spring. It is considered restful-many doctors' and dentists' offices are painted this color to calm the patient! For these reasons, the tempo/mood indication is 'tranquilly'. Lyrics depict restful, tranquil scenes of nature and the flow of the music laid back. Rather a softly performed piece with nothing louder than mp. A sections utilize hands in middle C position with RH mindful of the F#. Divided melody here between hands. B section also displays divided melody but with an entirely different melody. Because of the 8va the piece covers 2 octaves. In m. 10 (likewise in m. 34) The right hand is set up for a 5-finger D position since melody reaches up to A easily by arranging a fingering change. Form: intro A B A coda Key of G major Time signature Intro begins with dotted-half notes alternating between hands on Gs covering 4 octaves, damper pedal held over all 4 measures here. Students asked if the Gs were because it is the first letter of green! Coda same as intro except for a ritardando at end. Touches: entire piece very legato requiring the fingers to produce this in A sections, not relying on damper pedal as the intro and coda do. As in all of solos in this series, Box of Paints, the piece is designed to be open-ended encouraging and inspiring the student to think of things they like in this color and compose their own lyrics, even composing their own music about their favorite color. Great recital and/or contest and/or festival lists. Lynne performs the vocals and piano on the following you tube link. Lynne also arranged this piece as an instrumental only with many additions such as instrumental voicing and different instruments entitled 'Green Instrumental', also on you tube. Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.947265 Composed by John Philips. Blues,Jazz. Score and parts. 17 pages. John Philips Music Service #3867627. Published by John Philips Music Service (A0.947265). Very easy chart for middle schools on up. Based on 12 bar blues it runs at about 140 and has simple themes that are done with unison sections. It’ funky 2 beat and make you want to clap your hands on 2 & 4. Fun to play, younger players can do it and learn. It usually works to have the horn players that are not playing in the first part of the chat clap their hands over their head on 2 and 4. This will get the people into it. This is a simple funky 2 beat and should be kept that way. Piano has dissonant afterbeats--should be soft.If you want a Maynard or Buddy chart, look elsewhere. This series of charts uses nothing more complicated than eighth notes, are not frantic or screamers, extreme ranges and are hemi-demi-semi-quaver free. They depend on intonation and the players being not intimidated by what he is asked to play. There is no contest to see how high you can go before you need oxygen , how many notes you can play in 9 seconds or before your bell overheats , or how long it takes the audience to cover their earsRelaxed and confident players always play more in tune. Good harmonies, lines and realistic rhythm patterns will produce a good result that will swing and be enjoyed by player and listener alike.
