By Frank Sinatra. By Fred Ebb and John Kander. Arranged by Leo Silva. Broadway,Film/TV,Jazz,Multicultural,Musical/Show,Traditional,World. Individual part. 2 pages. MP Sheet Music #156472. Published by MP Sheet Music (A0.546452).

Theme from New York, New York (or New York, New York) is the theme song for the Martin Scorsese film New York, New York (1977), composed by John Kander, with lyrics by Fred Ebb. It remains one of the best-known songs about New York City. In 2004, it finished 31st in the AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs poll of top American film songs. In 1979, Theme from New York, New York was recorded by Frank Sinatra for his album Trilogy: Past Present Future (1980), and has become closely associated with it as one of his signature songs. Don Costa received a Grammy nomination for energetic orchestration. Sinatra occasionally performed the song live with Minnelli as a duet. Sinatra recorded for the second time for his 1993 album Duets, with Tony Bennett. Sinatra's recording peaked at #32 in June 1980, becoming his final Top 40 hit. It was also an Adult Contemporary hit, reaching #10 in the US[2] and #2 in Canada. [3] The song made a small showing in the UK (#59); however, it reappeared several years later and reached No. 4 in 1986. The song was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male and Sinatra made two more studio recordings of the song in 1981 (for their NBC TV special The Man and His Music) and 1993 (for Capitol Records). From the latter, an electronic duet with Tony Bennett was produced for Sinatra's Duets album.

By Keith Terrett. By Afonso Redentor Araújo, 1975. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Historic,Instructional,Multicultural,Standards,Traditional,World. 11 pages. Keith Terrett #1084408. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1509156).

Pátria (English: Fatherland) is the national anthem of East Timor. It was originally adopted when East Timor unilaterally declared its independence from Portugal in 1975. However, this usage would be short-lived, when the country was invaded by Indonesia. It was officially re-adopted when the independence of East Timor was finally restored in 2002 following a United Nations intervention.

The music was composed by Afonso Redentor Araújo, and the words were written by the poet Francisco Borja da Costa, who was killed by Indonesian forces at the time of the invasion. It was originally sung exclusively in Portuguese, however there is now a Tetum version.

The infraconstitutional officialization and the forms of ceremony of uses of the state anthem are regulated by the Law of the National Symbols of Timor-Leste.

Composed by Jenni Brandon. Contemporary. Individual part. 14 pages. Jenni Brandon Music #5709187. Published by Jenni Brandon Music (A0.918686).

Starry Night for solo B-flat clarinet is a three-movement work that tells of the night skies and our fascination with what lies in them. Using poetry and texts from Gerard Manley Hopkins, John Keats, and Van Gogh (whose painting is also the inspiration for the title of this work), these movements tell of the stars as fire-folk and how the sight of stars can make us dream. This work was written for Virginia Costa Figueiredo, and was recorded by her on her CD Seule. Duration approximately 9:00

Composed by Giuseppe Dogliani. Arranged by Guido Menestrina. Romantic Period,Sacred. Octavo. 6 pages. Guido Menestrina #1986533. Published by Guido Menestrina (A0.828730).

A tribute to the inspirational Brazilian guitarist Yamandu Costa, Shanghai is Australian slang for a slingshot. This is a term I remember from my childhood in north Queensland where a shanghai made from sticks and rubber was a prized possession for a young boy up to mischief. When pulled back the rubber stretches, and as it snaps back into shape, a stone or other form of ammunition is projected into the distance. This action reminds me of the dynamic and joyful qualities of Yamandu Costa’s performances. Shanghai aims to capture some of the energy, playfulness and musical expression Yamandu brings to everything he plays.

Composed by Azul Blatter. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary. 26 pages. Editorial Copistas Acuario #1089438. Published by Editorial Copistas Acuario (A0.1514943).

-------------------------------------------------

The editorial project Escordaturas: New Latin American music for strings was born from the concern of the Editorial Copistas Acuario, to expand its range of action after the successful publication of several volumes of Dominican historical and contemporary music.

Always attached to a first Dominican and then Latin American identity and following our institutional objective of promoting the sustainable development of the creative industry of the production, edition, publication and distribution of the national and regional musical heritage... we proposed to develop this new series by opening a general call to all young composers of the region who wish to publish and promote through this Editorial works of their authorship for string instruments and ensambles. This numbered compilation of 10 works has been prepared to represent the diversity and high level of the new sound creation in Latin America. Hence, precisely, the symbol of the escordatura to visualize this richness of a continent that despite the idiomatic differences of each country, manages to form an identifiable, valuable and striking cultural entity.

It is with immense enthusiasm that we present this first installment, which includes music from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Mexico, Ecuador and Venezuela; where the stylistic variety of each composer converges with languages that range from tonal and impressionist music to experimental and postmodern proposals.

With the opening of this new series, the Editorial Copistas Acuario deepens its position in Latin America and expands its catalog, hoping to achieve in the future its consolidation as the publishing house of Latin American music to the world.

SKU: A0.508952

Composed by Chiquinha Gonzaga. Arranged by Renato Esteves. Multicultural,World. Score and parts. 16 pages. Published by Renato Esteves (A0.508952).

The famous Corta-jaca, the name with which the Gaucho tango became popular, is one of the most recorded and known songs by Chiquinha Gonzaga, alongside Ó abre alas, Lua Branca and Atraente. He was born on the stages of musical theaters, where he was danced in the final scene of the burlesque operetta of national customs Zizinha Maxixe, imitated from French by an anonymous author, performed at Teatro Éden Lavradio, in August 1895. Actor Machado Careca (José Machado Pinheiro e Costa ), anonymous author of the play, ended up putting verses in Corta-jaca's music, helping to popularize it, especially after its version was recorded on disk by the duo Os Geraldos. Throughout history, Corta-jaca attended other stages and repertoires: coffee-singers, beer-beauties, choro circles… But it was at the Palácio do Catete, in 1914, that it reached its glory. Performed on the guitar by First Lady Nair de Teffé, it caused political scandal and ended up calling the administration Hermes da Fonseca. The reaction can be measured by the impassioned speech that Senator Rui Barbosa delivered from the gallery. When inquiring what the cut-jaca that he had heard so much about is, he concludes: “The lowest, the most foul, the rudest of all wild dances, the twin sister of batuque, cateretê and samba. But at presidential receptions, the cut-jaca is performed with all the honors of Wagner's music, and we don't want the conscience of this country to revolt, our faces redden and the youth to laugh!†Never before in the history of Brazil has eminently popular music been performed in the seat of government, in front of the diplomatic corps and the country's elite. Corta-jaca became a classic of the great repertoire of Brazilian instrumental music, deserving recordings, among others, by Abel Ferreira, Altamiro Carrilho, Antonio Adolfo, Artur Moreira Lima, Clara Sverner, Conjunto Regional do Donga, Eudóxia de Barros, Guio de Morais, Itamar Assieré, Leandro Braga, Marcus Viana, Maria Teresa Madeira, Marcelo Verzoni, Paulo Moura, Radamés Gnatalli, Rosária Gatti, Talitha Peres, Turíbio Santos, numerous bands and some sung versions. It was also written by the conductor for singing and piano and for a small orchestra: oboe, viola, timpani, horns (fá), bassoon. Edinha Diniz, 2011.

                                L'AMORE E LE SUE FORME

Lo incontrai

era un giorno senza fiato

perso tra la folla

mi guardava disperato

stai con me

sembri triste e solo

mentre piega il capo

lo accarezzo e lo consolo

non so chi sei

ma ti starò vicino

non sei uomo o donna

non sei adulto nè bambino

guardami

oltre le apparenze,

mi hai rincorso tanto ed ero qua

ero con te in quelle vie

ma tu non mi hai notato

negli occhi spenti di chi

ormai tutto ha perduto

ero in quel barbone steso là

avvolto nel giornale

ero in quella squallida corsia

tra la miseria e il male

Ma Ora fermati

smetti di correre

quante forme vuoi

prima di accorgerti

che sono intorno a te

in ogni brivido

che proverai

e come angeli

dalle ali fragili

spiccate il volo verso cieli sterili

sfiorate il sole ma

poi come Icaro

cadete giù

ma ora tu

puoi dirmi cosa vuoi?

vorrei, vorrei,

vorrei scordare le lacrime

e poi

 vorrei

con te  toccare le nuvole

vorrei gettare la maschera

e poi sentirmi più libera

vorrei poter riconoscere

tra tanta gente che c'è

chi somiglia un po' a me

Vorrei tornare all'origine

e  poi riscrivere pagine

vorrei spezzare i silenzi e poi

io vorrei e non dovrei

ricordarmi di lui

ti lascio esplodere

nascosta nemesi

divento sterile

femmina inutile

moderna Elettra nel mio lutto fragile

di nero mi vestirò

e smetto i panni di Pierrot improbabile

ed indurisco la mia scorza debole

povero cuore mio

soltanto un muscolo

l'amore rinnegherò

non mi commuovo più

smetto di ridere

calpesto questa parte mia sensibile

io burattino strano e un po' patetico

i fili miei taglierò

La gentilezza che diventa acredine

e sputo in faccia a chi fraintende e immagina

che donna dolce = disponibile

uomini solo a metà

femmina alfa di tribù di vergini

vi incateniamo maschilisti ipocriti

la tua virilità non può dipendere

solo dal sesso che fai

Mi adeguo a questa società di plastica

e mi innamoro solo del tuo bancomat

la mia natura astratta e vulnerabile

cenere al vento sarà

ma questa donna chi è

non sono io

e ritorno al mondo mio

e a te che

so chi sei

ti ho riconosciuto

sei l'amore  in ogni forma

offeso e maltrattato

stai con me

non sarò triste e sola

stringo la tua mano

che guarisce e che consola..
