The verses of this Anglican priest who was a contemporary of John Donne describe beautifully a dialog between 'Love’ (the Divine) and the human being.  The score attempts to illustrate the dramatic progression of this spiritual dialogue in which the eternal ´Love´ gives himself up to welcome the human being with merciful insistence as a privileged guest at a mystical meal. To make this dialogue clear while the choir takes the voice of the human nature -full of shame and guilt- while the Trebles assume the voice of the Divine Love -full of mercy and compassion-.  Neither the choosing of trebles nor the number 3 is casual: Childhood evokes naturally ideas of love and purity which are attributes of God himself, thus trebles seemed to me an appropriate choice to represent the voice of “Love†and the fact that there are three, is an intended reference to the Christian doctrine of the Trinity.

Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1439047 Composed by Todd Marchand. Christian,Sacred. 5 pages. Con Spirito Music #1019076. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1439047). “Let All the World in Ev’ry Corner Sing” is a short poem from the collection, The Temple, by Anglican priest, poet, and orator George Herbert (1593-1633). A contemporary of William Shakespeare and John Milton, God-child to poet John Donne, Herbert is associated with the 17th-century Metaphysical poets and “is remembered as a pivotal figure: enormously popular, deeply and broadly influential, and arguably the most skillful and important British devotional lyricist of his or any other time.” Shortly before his death in 1633 at age 39, Herbert directed that a manuscript of his religious poems be sent to his fellow clergyman and friend, Nicholas Ferrar, reportedly saying, “Tell him ... if he can think it may turn to the advantage of any dejected poor Soul, let it be made publick: if not, let him burn it: for I and it, are less than the least of God’s mercies.” First published in 1633, The Temple was an enormously popular work, totaling more than 20,000 copies printed in 13 editions between 1633 and 1679.“Let All the World in Ev'ry Corner Sing” is the refrain of Herbert’s poem, “Antiphon (I),” which appeared in the “Christian Life” section of The Temple. An antiphon may be defined as a short sentence or refrain sung or recited before or after a psalm or canticle; and in Herbert's short poem of two stanzas, he may also have intended that the verses be recited antiphonally (alternately) by two groups. The third stanza in this setting for SATB voices and organ, a doxology by an unknown author, was added in the 19th century. ©Copyright 2024 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). For more sacred, patriotic, folk, and popular music for instruments and voices, visit www.conspiritomusic.com

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1103534 By Corinne Byrne, soprano and Seth Mayer, piano. By George Edward Brandon. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary. Score. 21 pages. Blue Unity Music #706801. Published by Blue Unity Music (A0.1103534). George Brandon: Two Dream Poems (2020) for Soprano and Piano This piece consists of musical settings of two 20th century poems concerning the dream state: one by the American poet Gary Snyder; the other by Mavash Sabet from Iran. Gary Snyder’s poem, “Maudgalyayana Saw Hellâ€, is a complex and multilayered portrayal of a passage through the dream state, beginning with falling asleep and ending with waking up. At the same time as it describes a mythical journey and an inward psychological journey, it also presents a Buddhist metaphysical perspective in which the whole of life, and our ordinary sense of reality, appear and are questioned as dream states as well. At the time that Mavash Sabet wrote her poem “Hello Again†she was a political prisoner sentenced to twenty years in prison for her religious and educational activities. on behalf of the Bahai faith, a religion which is persecuted by Iran's theocratic government. “Hello Againâ€, from her book Prison Poems, describes a dream experience that renewed her inner sense of freedom despite being incarcerated, and provided her with strength and hope for the future. Complex but singable, intense and lyrical, these compelling songs will make a great impact in a concert or recital program. Duration: approximately 9 mins. Advanced.

Piano,Trombone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792526 Composed by Georges Bizet. Arranged by Ralph Sauer. 20th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score and part. 44 pages. Gordon Cherry #5008317. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792526). The Chants du Rhin (Songs of the Rhine), a cycle of six pieces, based on poems by Joseph Méry, were written in 1865, and Bizet performed two of them on 16 April 1866 at a soirée of the Beaujolais Philharmonic Society. The songs are grouped symmetrically around La bohémienne as the central piece, framed by two meditatively yearning pieces (in E and D flat major) and two vividly exuberant ones (similarly in E and D flat major), with L’aurore serving as an introduction. In this cycle Bizet takes up the theme of the gypsy girl which had already entered European music in the operas The Bohemian Girl by the Irish composer Michael William Balfe and Verdi’s Il trovatore, as well as in Franz Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsodies for piano. Bizet will return to it one year later in La jolie fille de Perth and ten years later in Carmen. The fourth piece Les confidences shows similarities in tonality, structure and motifs to the middle part of the third movement of Chopin’s Sonata in B minor.
