Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.755158 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 136 pages. Sy Brandon #3408279. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755158). Portrait of Don Quixote won first prize in the Hillcrest Wind Ensemble's 2016 Composition Competition and consists of three continuous sections. The first section represents Don Quixote's heroic deeds. The tempo and style of this section is Maestoso and contains an ostinato and fanfare-type figures. The second section represents ideal love. The lyrical melody and lush harmony of the outer parts speak to internal and external beauty while the middle part reflects the unobtainable ideal. A syncopated third section has Don Quixote fighting imaginary battles with windmills. The windmills are metaphoric for imaginary battles that humans sometime create in their own lives. This section alternates lighter playful ideas that show the frivolousness of some of the battles, with heroic fanfares representing the earnestness of the effort. The score prints on legal size paper and the parts on letter.

Large Ensemble,Rhythm Section Flute - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.910422 By Charlie Parker. By Charlie Parker. Arranged by David Heywood. Jazz. Score and parts. 63 pages. David Heywood #5203399. Published by David Heywood (A0.910422). Donna Lee by legendary jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker falls in to the category of a contrafact, or the recycling of an older tune using a new melody with the same chord changes. In this case, Parker used an old tune from 1917 called Indiana, or Back Home Again in Indiana, improvised a new melody over it, and the rest is history. This medium-up tempo swing arrangement features flute quartet (Four C Flutes) and rhythm section, and uses a paraphrase of the original tune in combination with Parker’s melody in the head and a canon with the same melody in the head out. All instruments get the opportunity to solo, and there is a flute soli section after blowing that pays homage to another contrafact done on the same tune by Horace Silver. Not an easy chart, but well worth the effort!
