Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1488127 By Natalie Cole. By Lorenz Hart and Richard Rodgers. Arranged by Dave Gingras and John E. Dosher. Broadway,Film/TV,Jazz,Musical/Show. Score. 2 pages. DAVID LEE GINGRAS #1065006. Published by DAVID LEE GINGRAS (A0.1488127). This Can't Be Love is a show tune and a popular song from the 1938 Rodgers and Hart musical The Boys from Syracuse when it was sung by Eddie Albert and Marcy Westcott. The lyrics poke fun at the common depiction of love in popular songs as a host of malignant symptoms, saying, This can't be love because I feel so well. This version was developed from a lead sheet and was simplified so that someone with average ability can play it and sound good doing so. We added root-based chord blocking and a few left-hand fills for rhythm - we hope you like what we've done with this grand old tune!

DAVID LEE GINGRAS #741504. Published by DAVID LEE GINGRAS (A0.1141217). Autumn in New York is a jazz standard and popular song composed by Vernon Duke in Westport, Connecticut in the summer of 1934. It was written without a commission or for a specific show, but Duke offered it to producer Murray Anderson for his Broadway musical Thumbs Up!. The play opened on December 27, 1934 where the song was performed by singer J. Harold Murray. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. We also added some left-hand rhythm for interest, we hope you like what we've done with the song!

Brass Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792265 Composed by Bach, J. S. Arranged by Chiang, Justin. Baroque,Classical,Renaissance. Score and parts. 15 pages. Gordon Cherry #4800233. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792265). The Goldberg Variations is arguably one of the greatest works of art in Western culture. A true work of genius that was first published in 1741 for harpsichord. The Aria a Sarabande about 5 minutes in length in 3/4 is the very first movement of the 30 variation work and is heavily ornamented. Justin Chiang has doubled the time to 6/4 and written out all of the ornaments, making the performance possibilities much more practical. This work is appropriate for advanced performers for the following instruments: 2 Trumpets in C, Horn in F, Trombone and Tuba (Bass Trombone).

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1251338 Composed by Orlande De Lassus. Arranged by Russell McKinney. Renaissance. 10 pages. Gordon Cherry #845614. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1251338). Domine, ne in Furore by Orlando di Lasso has been arranged for brass quintet by Russell McKinney. The music is taken from the seven Penitential Psalms that Lasso presented for exclusive use in Albrecht’s court shortly after he was appointed Maestro in 1563. The seven Penitential Psalms (6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, & 143 in Anglican numbering) have been in specific liturgical use from early in Western Christianity and therefore were a significant offer to his patron. He added another dimension to his versions by setting each psalm in a different church mode. The numbers in his collection indicates the mode of the setting, rather than the number of the psalm. This arrangement is of the first two sections of Penitential Psalm No. 3 which is Psalm 38 set in the Phrygian Mode. This arrangement is appropriate for moderately advanced performers and does not present any serious challenges for technique, range or endurance.

Piano,Trombone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1111191 Composed by You Dao Ma. Arranged by Li Kuang. 20th Century,Romantic Period. Score and part. 21 pages. Gordon Cherry #713469. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1111191). Gada Meiren Theme and Variation Fantasy is the most well-known trombone composition in China. It was originally written for solo trombone and orchestra (unpublished) by Chinese composer You Dao Ma (1915-2010). The composer adapted the Inner Mongolian folk song Gada Meiren, also the name of the Inner Mongolian hero. The trombone and piano version of this piece was first published in China in 1959. Gada Meiren Theme and Variation Fantasy is a single movement work that depicts a story with four distinct parts. Part one: The repressed emotions of the Inner Mongolian people under the ruler. Gada Meiren led his people to fight against the ruler to protect their home and land. Part two: Gada Meiren's nostalgia for his homeland and people when fighting away from home. Part three: Gada Meiren's death in the battle. People mourned their hero with great sadness. Epilogue: People's remembrance and praise for their hero Gada Meiren, carrying his spirit moving forward. Taken from the 1959 version, this new edition of Gada Meiren Theme and Variation Fantasy for solo Trombone and Piano has fixed notation errors, added dynamics, articulations, tempo (bpm) markings, rearranged the piano score and solo part. All original Chinese terms in scores are translated into western standard musical terms. The solo is about 9.5 minutes in length and appropriate for advanced performers.

Brass Ensemble Trombone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792665 Composed by Jeff Reynolds. Arranged by Cherry Classics Music. Christian,Jewish,Sacred. Score and parts. 24 pages. Gordon Cherry #5320113. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792665). Here is a description of the Four Psalms for Four Trombones by Jeff Reynolds. Musical settings of The Psalms of David are a staple in the Compline world, and are indeed the musical nut of Compline. I composed these in modes for a choir of men, with countertenors and text, and thought these settings would be a soothing repast for the trombone world; maybe not for the 1st player. The lack of stems and meter is a way to get away from the rhythmic feel of western music and into the lumpy, arhythmic, text driven zone of chant. There are only 3 basic note lengths: a larger white note is a whole note; a smaller white note is a half note surrogate; and a black note is a quarter note. Be not anxious to get to the new phrase. Taking time for breaths is a good thing. Psalm 130 is a Penitential Psalm, with music in the acerbic style of Igor Stravinsky after the 2nd trombone solo from the Russian Easter of Korsakov.  Mr. Reynolds has written settings for Psalms 4, 91 Qui habitat, 130 De profundis and 103. The Psalms are appropriate for moderately advanced to intermediate level performers.

Brass Ensemble Trombone - Digital Download SKU: A0.1050807 Composed by Jocelyn Morlock. Contemporary. Score and parts. 58 pages. Gordon Cherry #655129. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1050807). Sequoia for Trombone Octet and Percussion composed in 2009 by Jocelyn Morlock is inspired by the profound beauty and grandeur of these giant trees that tower in the forests of Western Canada. The outer sections of this tripartite work are fierce and majestic, while the middle section is marked by relative quietude and fragility. This work was commissioned by Redshift Music Society with generous support from the British Columbia Arts Council. Instrumentation is for 6 tenor trombones (4 of them B-flat/F), 2 bass trombones, percussion (timpani, glockenspiel and vibraphone performed by one musician). This 10-minute work is appropriate for advanced performers. This recording of Sequoia, with all trombone parts multi-tracked by Neal Bennett, and percussion played by Brian Nesselroad, is available on Bennett’s 2013 recording, Ziggurat, on the Redshift Records label.

Brass Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792096 Composed by van Deursen, John. World. Score and parts. 41 pages. Gordon Cherry #3429341. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792096). About the Taiwan Fantasia, van Deursen states: After having lived in Taipei for a number of years, I learned many of the local folk and popular songs. Some of the melodies are exceptionally beautiful, and my idea was to somehow combine all the elements that have made up my musical experiences over these years - Chinese melodies, western orchestral music and jazz; I wanted to see if these songs could survive with a totally different harmonic structure and concept. My original goal was to write a simple arrangement of the two songs, but quickly I discovered more melodies building upon the original ones and thus the Variations were born. Composed in 1995, this work of about 10 minutes in length is in one continuous movement, but is divided into seven short sections of contrasting moods including two cadenzas, for Trumpet and Trombone.  The music is appropriate for advanced performers. Parts in C and B-flat are supplied for the Trumpets. A recording of Taiwan Fantasia can be purchased on iTunes from the album by the Yeh Shu Han Brass Quintet.

Girtain IV (A0.912545). Program NotesAs part of an ongoing artistic collaboration between the conductor Hingrid Kujawinski and composer Edgar Girtain, Every Day isThanksgiving is a choral adaptation of a quotation by Gladys Widdis, elder of theWampanoag Native American tribe. As the Wampanoag are reputed to have been the tribe present at the first thanksgiving feast, Widdis's thoughts on the holiday are particularly apt. Her words of wisdom are worthy of meditation by all people:Every day [is] a day of thanksgiving to the Wampanoag...[We] give thanks for the dawn of thenew day, at the end of the day, to the sun, to the moon, for rain for helping crops grow...There [is]always something to be thanksful for...Giving thanks comes naturally for the Wampanoag...
