This well-known spiritual, first recorded by Robert Gordon in 1926, originates in the Gullah Geechee community of Darien, Georgia.  Gordon's recording was of Gullah Geechee member Henry Wylly (born 1899?).  The music links back to the Gullah Geechee's ancestors who were brought to America from West Africa in the early 1700s and are a cry for help from oppression and hope for better days.
Now arranged for Brass Sextet, it is a wonderful addition to use for concerts or religious services.
Instrumentation is for the British Brass Band ensemble of two cornets, tenor horn, tenor trombone TC, Bb Euphonium, and Eb Bass.  Orchestral brass alternates are included.

Always On My Mind did not see completion until late 1971. Songwriter-guitarist Wayne Carson had about two verses done, with the working title You Were Always On My Mind. He had been occupied in Memphis on a project that required him to stay ten days longer, and he phoned his wife in Springfield, Missouri, to apologize for the delay. She was angry, and he replied: Well, I know I’ve been gone a lot, but I’ve been thinking about you all the time. His words struck him as potential song material, and he quickly ended the call so he could capture the idea on paper.

This suite derives from three scenes of Act One of Razumov, a chamber opera based on the novel Under Western Eyes by Joseph Conrad. Themes for the first movement are taken from the opening scene, in which a university student (Haldin) assassinates a government minister. Haldin then seeks refuge in the room of a fellow student, Razumov. Haldin asks Razumov to go find the driver who will help Haldin escape from the city. The second movement is based on the scene in which the chief of state security interviews Razumov to find out what he knows about the assassin. Lee's version was released three months later in June 1972. The song has been a crossover hit, charting in both the country and western and pop categories. Elvis Presley's recording was the first hit version of the song, AllMusic lists more than 300 recorded releases of the song in versions by dozens of performers. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. For interest and to keep the rhythm moving, we added some pretty cool left-hand fills. Throw Out the Life-Line is song from the camp meeting style. This arrangement has been done in a western, cowboy style with banjo styles in the piano accompaniment. The trumpet parts are easy with the melody exchanging back and forth between the to parts. The will be a great congregation pleaser.

According to BMI, it has been recorded by more than 350 artists, and translated into 30 languages. In 1977, the Louisiana State Legislature decreed that You Are My Sunshine would be a state song, to honor two-time governor Jimmie Davis. This version features a root-based chord-blocking that John and I have used in many of our arrangements. This one sounds pretty cool when played with a lively, country-western rhythm. Air Arabe, Op. 77 by Heinrich Molbe is a short, evocative musical piece that falls under the Romantic period's characteristic style of exoticism. Composed for oboe, horn, and piano, it reflects a fascination with Eastern cultures, common in 19th-century European art. The work is infused with what Western composers imagined as “Arabian” or “Oriental” sounds, featuring chromatic melodies, modal scales, and rhythmic patterns that evoke the mystique of the Middle East.

Molbe’s use of lyrical, flowing lines and embellished ornamentation gives the piece an improvisational feel intended to mimic the Arabic musical traditions that inspired him. While not a well-known composer today, Heinrich Molbe (pseudonym for Heinrich Freiherr von Bach) captured the spirit of the time by blending European Romantic idioms with an exotic, foreign flair. The title itself, Air Arabe, suggests that the piece was meant to evoke a particular atmosphere rather than strictly adhere to authentic Arabic musical practices.

Kittatinny Ridge Suite is composed of three movements: I. On the Delaware at Carpenter's Point, II. The Fields of Walpack at Dusk, and III. Yellow Frame's Harvest Home. The suite is a musical landscape of different points along the Kittatinny mountain ridge in western Sussex County, New Jersey. I. On the Delaware at Carpenter's Point explores a kayaking trip at the very northern point of New Jersey. From the river one can see the High Point monument, the highest point in the state, as one crosses under bridges, passes islands, and speeds through small rapids. II. The Fields of Walpack at Dusk paints the tiny, rural township of Walpack, with its quiet fields and forests. The central theme is In Babilone: an old Dutch melody, echoing the regions colonial-era settlers. III. Yellow Frame's Harvest Home is a fantasy on Come, Ye Thankful People, Come, illustrating the late summer community dinner, Harvest Home run by the Yellow Frame Presbyterian Church, of Fredon township. Other hymn tunes surface in the piece, including May the Lord Mighty God and St. Anne (the colonial-era psalm tune for O God our Help in Ages Past).
