At the end of the long recording session, Crosby decided to sing only a single chorus of the song in the middle of an orchestral version instead of the full ballad treatment used in the film. This led to a long argument between the singer and producer Jack Kapp. Eventually Crosby prevailed. Crosby recorded the song again in 1954 for his album Bing: A Musical Autobiography.

Medium voice and piano - Moderately Difficult - Digital Download SKU: MQ.7703-5E Composed by John David Earnest. Secular, 21st century. 4 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #7703-5E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.7703-5E). Conceived over lunch at the Oak Room in the famed Algonquin Hotel in New York City, Songs of Sophistication is an homage by poet Robert Bode and composer John David Earnest to the wit and verbal swordplay of the members of the “Algonquin Round Table” of the 1920s. Such literary luminaries as Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, George S. Kaufman, Robert E. Sherwood, Alexander Woollcott, and Harold Ross met for lunch daily at the Algonquin to discuss the affairs of the day and to trade delicious bon mots. The five songs in this set explore such sophisticated topics as travel, food, love, language, and the true nature of genius, subjects that surely would have been discussed, dissected, satirized, and parodied by the brilliant circle of friends at the Round Table.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1256869 Composed by Nicholas White. 21st Century,Christmas,Folk,Singer/Songwriter. Octavo. 8 pages. Nicholas White Music #850256. Published by Nicholas White Music (A0.1256869). A gentle setting for chorus and keyboard, rich in melody and harmony, of Dorothy Parker's poem. The things she knew, let her forget again-The voices in the sky, the fear, the cold,The gaping shepherds, and the queer old menPiling their clumsy gifts of foreign gold.Let her have laughter with her little one;Teach her the endless, tuneless songs to sing,Grant her her right to whisper to her sonThe foolish names one dare not call a king.Keep from her dreams the rumble of a crowd,The smell of rough-cut wood, the trail of red,The thick and chilly whiteness of the shroudThat wraps the strange new body of the dead.Ah, let her go, kind Lord, where mothers goAnd boast his pretty words and ways, and planThe proud and happy years that they shall knowTogether, when her son is grown a man.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1477702 By Tommy Dorsey & His Orchestra. By Dorothy Parker and Jack King. Arranged by Dave Gingras and John E. Dosher. Broadway,Film/TV,Jazz,Musical/Show. Score. 2 pages. DAVID LEE GINGRAS #1055083. Published by DAVID LEE GINGRAS (A0.1477702). Aside from the fact that How Am I to Know? was once recored by Frank Sinatra recorded alongside Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra, I wasn't able to find a lot of info about the history of this tune from 1929. That being said, this version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements and we added a few left-hand fills for rhythm. We hope you like what we've done with this grand old tune!
