All save one of these pieces comes from the London Sketchbook (K.15), composed when Mozart was 8. Contredanse K15h and KV Anh 109b, no 6; 5. Allegro, K15a; Contredanse, K15gg . The originals are untitled. I have used the titles in The London Sketchbook, transcribed RSB (IMSLP). Some of the arrangements are much simpler than others, so there is something for all abilities.

Six delightfully melodic songs of the 1790s by this prolific English composer, arranged from the original melody and bass for SATB recorders. Each instrument is kept busy, with the responsibility for Hook's favourite Alberti bass falling firmly on the fingers and patience of the tenor and bass recorders. There are a few virtuoso passages for the soprano in imitation of bird song, and in the last song particularly I have totally changed the original harmonies. The six songs are: 1. The enchanting slow movement from Saint-Saens's Violin Concerto no 3 (Op.61), a winner for concerts, is here offered in an  arrangement for Flute Choir, including solo flute. Although difficult for the soloist, the piece translates beautifully for flute ensemble.

One of the Op 4 Sonatas (1725) and originally for violin, this Sonata In G has become a favourite with recorder players, though not easy to obtain. This edition contains (1) soprano recorder part, with editorial trills and mordents, plus a written out ornamented cadence to the penultimate bar of the opening Largo; (2) keyboard part with figured bass; (3) bass continuo (cello, viola da gamba, or bassoon).  All tempo markings are editorial; the keyboard realisation is editorial and can, of course, be modified at will, as can ornamentation of the recorder part.  NOTE: a limitation of my notation software has necessitated using hash for the figured bass sharp sign, and for the figured natural, I have used hash cancelled with a slash. A lovely, approachable Sonata.

Ideal for general worship, the setting is sufficiently traditional to suit a more formal service, yet catchy and rhythmical enough for a less formal group or style of worship. Each voice is within its normal range, and the keyboard part is within the capability of any moderately able player. Duration: 3 minutes. .

Individual part. 25 pages. Douglas Brooks-Davies #6266411. Published by Douglas Brooks-Davies (A0.898116). A lovely set of variations on the Austrian folk song 'Cousin Michael was there last night'. Originally for csakan or 'romantic recorder' (tuned to G) and guitar, this arrangement, for soprano recorder and piano, offers the recorder part in the original printed key of G - so we play almost exactly the same fingering as the csakan. The guitar part, however, originally written out in the sounding key of C, has been arranged for piano and transposed to G. The piano part keeps as closley as possible to the simple unobtrusiveness of the guitar, with minimal filling out, mainly in the right hand. Metronome markings are ediorial. Slurs, dynamics, etc. are as in the original (where I have added simile, it is to be understood that the slurring of the  preceding bars is to be followed all through). Nothing is known of the composer. The piece was published in Vienna in 1815.

Published by Douglas Brooks-Davies (A0.898101).  Among the many compositions for guitar by the celebrated guitarist Mauro Giuliani (1781-1828) is a collection of 16 charmingly tuneful dances, published under the title La Tersicore del Nord (The Northern Tersicore, this being the name of the ancient Greek muse of the dance), thereby suggesting that Giuliani felt the collection to be inspired in some way by what he understood to be a northern European spirit. Here are six of them, nos 6, 7, 10, 11, 12 and 13, arranged for recorder quartet - soprano (descant), alto (treble), tenor and bass. The melodies are Giuliani's, the rest is mine, each part being given some at least of the fun in these engaging pieces. Tempo indications are also editorial.
