Jazz Combo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1220916 By Wes Montgomery. By John L. (Wes) Montgomery and Sascha Burland. Arranged by Arranged by Alan Fagan & Dr. LeRoy Henry. 20th Century,Blues,Jazz,Standards. 7 pages. Dr. LeRoy Henry #817258. Published by Dr. LeRoy Henry (A0.1220916).      Fortunately for us, guitarist Wes Montgomery went over to Europe in the spring of 1965 and toured. We're lucky, because Montgomery wound up on European TV shows during many of his stops, resulting in lots of video clips.      Wes was filmed May 7 in England with pianist Stan Tracey, bassist Rick Laird, and drummer Jackie Dougan. This session is quite different from the April 4 session in Belgium with pianist Harold Mabern, bassist Arthur Harper and drummer Jimmy Lovelaceand the April 2, 1965 session in Holland with pianist Pim Jacobs, bassist Ruud Jacobs and drummer Han Bennink in that it includes commentary from club owner Ronnie Scott, who explains the career and music of Wes Montgomery as if he were giving a lecture. The music, of course, features more of Montgomery's great stuff with personable glimpses at each of the artists. The quartet swings and seems to enjoy every minute of the show. The guitarist's West Coast Blues, in particular, makes this video stand out as an unforgettable piece of jazz history.     An interesting thing about this video, the horn section did not know that the chord changes for solos were different than the changes for the theme. One can imagine that Wes was not traveling with a Real Book so the group did not learn this from paper. This arrangement corrects that issue and includes a head chart for the rhythm section and a version for guitar with tablature. It also includes trumpet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, and baritone saxophone.

Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1214573 By John Coltrane. By John Coltrane. Arranged by edited by Dr. LeRoy Henry. Hip-Hop,Historic,Instructional,Jazz,R & B. Guitar Tab. 10 pages. Dr. LeRoy Henry #811555. Published by Dr. LeRoy Henry (A0.1214573). Lazy Bird by Pat Martino was written by John Coltrane and was first released by John Coltrane in  1957. Pat Martino released it on the 1968 album East! Despite the title and the cover of this CD  reissue (which makes it appear that the performances are greatly influenced by music of the Far East),  the style played by guitarist Pat Martino's quartet is very much in the hard bop tradition. Martino was  already developing his own sound and is in excellent form with pianist Eddie Green, drummer Lenny  McBrowne, and either Ben Tucker or Tyrone Brown on bass during two group originals, Benny  Golson's Park Avenue Petite, John Coltrane's Lazy Bird, and the standard Close Your Eyes.  It's a good example of Pat Martino's playing in his early period.

Bass Guitar TAB - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1349230 By The Meters. By Arthur Neville, George Porter, Joseph Modeliste, Jr., and Leo Nocentelli. Arranged by edited by Dr. LeRoy Henry. Funk,Jazz,R & B,Rock,Soul. Score. 3 pages. Dr. LeRoy Henry #933975. Published by Dr. LeRoy Henry (A0.1349230). Cissy Strut is a 1969 funk instrumental by The Meters. Released as a single from their eponymous debut album, it reached No. 4 on the R&B chart and No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100. The tune was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2011, which honors recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old. The A.V. Club called the song a classic deeply rooted in New Orleans music tradition.Cissy Strut was featured in the films Jackie Brown, Red, King Richard and Another Round as well as in the BBC television series The Pursuit of Love.In 2021, Rolling Stone ranked Cissy Strut at number 158 on their 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list, one of the handful of instrumentals to make the list. Many transcribers of this tune obscure the 1/4 notes by improperly beaming the 1/16 notes. This arrangement fixes that issue. Many bass players just play the hook during solos. This arrangement shows example of the vamp that do not rely on the hooks. The tune uses the Boden form used by Bartok and is used when playing jazz ballads.
