Geologicalchange? Then came Dr. Walter Alvarez! Dr. Alvarez discovered a thin layer of themineral iridium found in sedimentary rocks that were roughly 65 million years old.Knowing that iridium only comes from a meteor, he set out to find the source, acrater in the Yucatán peninsula of Mexico called Chicxulub. In 1991, Dr. Alvarezwrote a book called T.Rex and the Crater of Doom, describing the scientificjourney to most widely accepted theory about the demise of the dinosaurs.The Crater of Doom is inspired by this text. Although we think of the demise of thedinosaurs as a singular event (In a geological sense, this is sort of true.), it reallyoccurred over thousands, and perhaps, millions of years. I wanted this piece todepict these events. In four movements, played without a break, one can hear leadup to the initial impact of the meteor strike, its aftermath, a lonely hunt by one ofthe last survivors, and the sunset of the dinosaur era.

Quips, Quotes, and Quibbles is a set of eighteen very brief compositions for medium voice and piano, based on humorous quotes about music or musicians, or by musicians themselves. Each selection utilizes compositional styles to represent the composer quoted or referenced. They can be performed in their entirety as a set (16 minutes), or can be extracted and performed in smaller sets. They invariably induce laughter in the audience when performed live. Though copyright permission was not necessary for use of the texts, the composer secured permission to use them from two publishers, who simply requested that there publications be referenced in the score. These are also excellent pieces for composers and music theory students to analyze in order to study compositional techniques used. Dr. Weber is a member of ASCAP and has his own YouTube channel, at which you can see some of his original compositions performed, or him performing his works in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. .

Y., in 2004 under the direction of Dr. Roy Ernst, founder of the New Horizons International Music Association. The NHIMA now has over 180 concert bands, orchestras, and choral groups with 8,000 participants in 5 countries. Dr. Ernst has conducted the march at many New Horizons music camps.The first theme of the march is a vocal section which can be personalized by inserting the name of the local band in place of New Horizons Band. Difficult. “Fugue for Brass Quintet� was composed in the fall of 2021 as a Christmas gift for Laurence Wagner, the number one fan of Gilded Music Press and Dr. Thrower’s compositions. Straying from Dr. Thrower’s customary programmatic titles and aural depictions, this five-minute fugue is absolute music. The subject (trumpet 1, measures 1-8) and countersubject (trumpet 1, measures 9-16) are present in some form—including inversions, augmentations, fragmentations, juxtapositions, and sequences—throughout the entire work. It would benefit the performers to analyze the material to some degree of detail to better bring out the important motifs. The modulations wander into a wide variety of keys, though there are no notated key changes due to the rapid harmonic rhythm. The first trumpet part extends to high D, in concert pitch toward the end of the fugue. It is recommended that the player of this part switch to a smaller instrument and transpose the ending. The horn part also reaches a professional level high range, to a written B-flat.
