Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1102559 Composed by David Perkins. Children,Comedy,Contemporary. Octavo. 37 pages. David Perkins #705972. Published by David Perkins (A0.1102559). A lively setting for choir and piano of three of the most popular tales from the first volume of poems written and published by Hilaire Belloc in 1907: 1. Rebecca (who slammed doors for fun and perished miserably); 2. Henry King (who chewed bits of string and was early cut off in dreadful agonies); 3. Jim (who ran away from Nurse and was eaten by a lion); The text is rich with humorous twists and turns, moments of melodrama, pathos and comic asides. With the help of a colourful piano accompaniment, these musical settings breathe new life into the classic poems with a direct storytelling style and plenty of humour. Three Cautionary Tales for Choirs can be performed as a whole or as separate songs, with a total running time of about 8:30.

Soprano, tenor and piano or piano alone - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6181 Version for two voices and piano or piano alone. Composed by George Percy Aldridge Grainger. This edition: score. Downloadable, Score. Duration 6 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q6181. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6181). Vocalises. No traditional tunes of any kind are made use of in this piece, in which I have wished to express my personal feelings about my own country (Australia) and people, and also to voice a certain kind of emotion that seems to me not untypical of native-born Colonials in general.Perhaps it is not unnatural that people living more or less lonelily in vast virgin countries and struggling against natural and climatic hardships (rather than against the more actively and dramaticly exciting counter wills of their fellow men, as in more thickly populated lands) should run largely to that patiently yearning, inactive sentimental wistfulness that we find so touchingly expressed in much American art; for instance in Mark Twains Huckleberry Finn, and Stephen C. Foster's adorable songs, My Old Kentucky Home, Old Folks at Home, etc. I have also noticed curious, almost Italian-like, musical tendencies in brass band performances and ways of singing in Australia (such as a preference for richness and intensity of tone and soulful breadth of phrasing over more subtly and sensitively varied delicacies of expression) which are also reflected here.Percy Aldridge Grainger.

Piano Trio,String Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.1023023 Composed by Jonathan Wilson. Concert,Contemporary,New Age,Wedding,World. Score and parts. 23 pages. Fresh Air #5038071. Published by Fresh Air (A0.1023023). Just for Joe is based on a simple four bar repetition originally devised on my thumb piano and played as a lullaby to get my infant son, Joe, to sleep. I later developed a slow melody, on top of the thumb piano continuo, sung with some (not very good) words. When out local amateur dramatics group put on an adaption of A Midsummer Night's Dream it was used as a song with Clarsach accompaniment during the scene where the fairy queen, Titania, is lulled to sleep by the other fairies. Finally, when we put on the concert at our local village hall to raise funds for a new piano, I arranged it for Thumb Piano, Violin, Cello and Piano with a third line for the Violin in addition to the continuo on Thumb Piano and melody on Cello. The Violin and Cello were played by two very talented young players with the technique and skill to allow the un-amplified thumb piano to be heard against the Violin. Despite putting this together on the day before the concert, this was a real high spot of the performance and the atmosphere in the Hall was electric.

Bassoon Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018948 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 2 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6078681. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018948). Programme Notes: This composition was written to be considered for pairing alongside Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony #3, the Eroica, but can stand on its own virtues as an intense and slow meditation on heroism. The music is like a boiling pot on the stove that’s just began to overflow its bubbles. The first part of the title, kommos, is a Classical Greek term from Attic dramaturgy, literally meaning striking but specifically referring to beating oneself up during lamentation--ripping at the hair, gouging out the eyes--like Oedipus--slapping the forehead, and other acts amid moments of extreme emotional turmoil. For example, from Aeschylus's play Agamemnon, a character bewails: Apollo, Apollo! God of the Ways, my destroyer! For you have destroyed me-and utterly [...]What is this fresh woe [...]what monstrous, monstrous horror, beyond love's enduring, beyond all remedy? And help stands far away! We can easily imagine physical accompaniment to the script; rather than bottling up the pain, the hero lets it all explosively come out.  â€ƒThe second part of the title, When the world moved on, is an epigraph taken from American author Stephen King’s The Dark Tower epic. The primary setting of the novel, a world similar in many ways to our own, is experiencing a dark age where the glorious past is all but a distant memory and all good things are referred to wistfully as occurring, When the world moved on. Yet, the main protagonist, Roland, the last gunslinger, emphasizes that it is not just a figure of speech, but the literal distances between destinations have increased, the positions of the stars have changed, as well as the occurrence of other unnatural phenomena. The world has become a gulf of isolation from all corners. Taken together, this piece is a lamentation for when the world moved on. Truly completed on Yom Kippur during the Covid-19 Pandemic, being unable to fast or go to synagogue, this is my atonement.About the Composer: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

2(2.pic).2.2.1.cbsn-2.2.0.0-timp-hp.cel-str violin and orchestra - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q42526 Fur Violine und Orchester. Composed by Ryan Wigglesworth. This edition: study score. Music Of Our Time. Downloadable, Study score. Duration 16 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q42526. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q42526). My Violin Concerto is scored for a Classical-sized orchestra, with the addition of a harp and celeste, and lasts around 17 minutes. Although the work sets out to explore the lyrical characteristics of the solo instrument, it is only gradually that the violin finds its full, lyric voice, and thence, as the work progresses, a more dominant role. This, in one sense, is the ‘journey’ of the piece. The work’s straightforward formal scheme consists of three movements (roughly fast–slow–fast) framed by a reflective introduction and epilogue. However, these formal divisions exist within a single, unbroken arc. Such an overall symmetrical shape places the slow Arioso (itself divided into three subsections) at the midpoint, sandwiched between the two Allegro movements. The dramaturgy of the piece centres on a twofold search. First there is the ongoing pursuit to ‘recapture’ the simple melodic material stated by the solo violin – accompanied by the harp’s bass register – during the opening bars. Whilst aspects of this melody are invoked frequently throughout (especially in the violin cadenza which closes the Arioso movement), it is only with the final and most important climax of the work that the melody appears again in its complete form, now accompanied by violent, orchestral stabs. The second search is for a tonal resting place, the arrival of which is delayed until the close of the epilogue. The original version of the Violin Concerto, commissioned by the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, was premiered in Amsterdam in February 2012 with Gordan Nikolic as soloist. The present, revised version was created for Barnabás Kelemen and the Hallé. The piece is dedicated, with admiration, to my friend Oliver Knussen. (Ryan Wigglesworth).
