THIS IS THE DAY (A Wedding Song) is written by American singer and songwriter Scott Wesley Brown. This song was released in 1979 in his album One Step Closer under the Sparrow label. Basically a wedding song, This Is The Day draws its inspiration from the Bible - Psalm 118-24 - This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it. (from the New American Standard Bible 1995).

This is an instrumental arrangement for String Quartet, with a full score and individual parts for each instrument - first and second violins, viola, and cello. It requires intermediate to advanced playing ablity.

This piece modulates constantly to show the changing environments of the journey, yet maintains the walking and bouncy pace of the adventurer. This solo is designed to show off the player's ability to perform accurate and clean arpeggios in 10 different major keys, as well as their ability keep the constant walking pace throughout the entire song.

Journeying was selected as the winner for the University of Toledo Young Composers Competition in 2020.

Adam Lenhart (b. 2002) is a University of Michigan student of music theory, composition, voice and organ from Ottawa Lake, Michigan. As a theorist, his areas of study vary widely, including 18th century counterpoint, the early American Sacred Harp tradition and impressionism. As a composer, his music draws inspiration from nature, mathematics and poetry. In 2020 he was awarded the Michigan Music Education Association’s Young Composers of Michigan award, as well as first prize in the University of Toledo Young Composers competition. Lenhart has also participated in numerous ensembles across Michigan, including the MYAF All-State Choir, Tecumseh Pops Orchestra, University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club and the SMTD University Choir. He thoroughly enjoys collaboration with other composers, performers, poets and visual artists. Some of his recent projects include collaborations with individuals from the University of Michigan Chamber Music, History, and Poetry departments.

Any violinist who hears the name Sitt nowadays will probably just think of the author of studies and exercises that have long been a familiar feature in instrumental lessons. Of course the Prague violinist, music teacher and composer Hans Sitt (1850–1922) made a significant impact on methods of violin teaching, but he also wrote a whole series of other works worth listening to: concertos for violin, viola and cello and chamber music for various combinations of instruments. Sitt studied the violin in Prague and was then appointed first as leader of the orchestra and then as musical director in Breslau (now called Wrocław).After posts as director of music in Prague, Chemnitz – where he championed the work of Smetana – and Nice, he was eventually appointed professor of violin, orchestral playing and score reading at the Leipzig Conservatoire from 1884–1921. Besides this he also played viola in the Brodsky Quartet, organised concerts and was conductor of the Bach Society. The composers Franco Alfano - who completed Puccini’s unfinished opera Turandot– and Frederick Delius studied with Sitt, as did the conductor Václav Talich. Three Album Leaves op. 13 were also composed during his time in Leipzig, published by Bosworth & Co in 1894. Romanesca, No. 1 in that collection, is a pretty, slightly melancholy piece of music with romantic appeal that draws out lyrical and expressive playing and is thus eminently suitable for tuition purposes and concert performances.

A new composition by Philip Le Bas for the standard baroque ensemble of treble recorder, (baroque) bassoon and harpsichord in a modern idiom! The inspiration for the work is a poem by G K Chesterton entitled A Christmas Carol (see below), contrasting the tranquility and brilliance of the Christ-child lying on his mother Mary's lap with the weariness of the rest of the world. The music draws on a simple setting the composer wrote of these words (The Christ Child) but disrupts the flow with occasional non-harmonic notes and some surprising key changes, gradually shifting the tonality downwards to a more peaceful ending.
