It was written and produced by Bloodshy & Avant, with additional writing from Cathy Dennis and Henrik Jonback. Released as the second single from In the Zone, the song was initially offered to Kylie Minogue for her album Body Language, but she turned it down. After trying to choose between (I Got That) Boom Boom and Outrageous to be the second single, Spears selected Toxic instead. A dance-pop and techno-pop song with elements of bhangra music, Toxic features varied instrumentation, such as drums, synthesizers and surf guitar. It is accompanied by high-pitched Bollywood strings, sampled from Lata Mangeshkar and S. P. Balasubrahmanyam's Tere Mere Beech Mein (1981), and breathy vocals. Its lyrics draw an extended metaphor of a lover as a dangerous yet addictive drug.

As a result, violence in civilized society is increasing at an alarming rate. How do we combat those that do harm to others, and more importantly, how do we convince our race as a whole that the problem cannot long be ignored? This original poem and its musical setting seek to pay tribute to the victims of violence in the modern United States. In an age where it seems a new tragedy has occurred somewhere every day, this work is titled 365 to represent each day of the year. The poem is structured in seven stanzas for the days of the week, and there are twelve iterations of Three hundred and sixty-five for the twelve months in the year. The final, introspective stanza parallels the poignant Christian story of Christ's crucifixion at the hands of his brethren, and lends a darker side of thought with the chosen grouping of words (read either no more; God forgive us or no more God; forgive us). This text humbly seeks to draw attention to what exactly is happening among us, among our neighbors, our governors, and our legislators, and the importance of addressing this ever-growing crisis in our society.

The travels of the three wise men as they followed a star to see the newborn King was the inspiration for this arrangement. It starts with the right hand representing the twinkling of the stars in the vastness of the heavens, while the left hand provides the feeling of winds blowing across the desert sands as the magi set out on their journey. Soon the melody is heard in the right hand, though in a more stately rhythm than the traditional, more pastoral original. The left hand continues its sweeping motion unabated and drives the piece ever onward as the wise men draw ever nearer to their destination. The minor mood of the song is replaced in the chorus as the star of wonder shines down upon them, filling their souls with hope. Eventually they arrive at the stable and offer their gifts to the babe lying in a manger: gold, frankincense and myrrh. It is the last of these gifts which foreshadow the death of Christ and his burial in the stone-cold tomb. After they have spent some time praising their new-found king, the three wise men return to their homeland as the music follows them back across the desert sands to their homes in the East.

Beautiful melody. I think this one will make you a cut above the rest! A challenging but fullfilling piece of jazz music. This piece makes you stand out as a solo jazz guitarist of all idioms. This is for the chord expert. There are 44 different chords in this piece! Some chords are played as triads or dyads or eliminated, and single notes are used. I draw a line over the note if it's the high note of a chord or I use a dot if it's played as a single note, the chord is then in parentheses. I tend to use a minimalist style that keeps the important parts of the music. Sounds great on acoustic and electric guitars. This was on of Nat King Cole's signature pieces.I love this tune!
