Published by David McKeown (A0.588511). The Londonderry Air is among the best loved melodies of Ireland. This beautiful version is arranged as a duet for two Cellos. The Londonderry Air was first collected and notated in the mid-nineteenth century in County Londonderry in the North of Ireland, however, the origins of the melody remain unknown. In 1913 the English writer Frederic Weatherley set his poem Danny Boy to the melody. There are many other settings of the Londonderry Air, with various lyrics and in musical styles from orchestral to brass band to jazz, but Danny Boy remains the best known.Londonderry Air is simply arranged in accessible keys and over a range best suited to the instruments. The melody is played twice with a key change and different accompaniment on the second verse and is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of a little over three minutes, this version of Londonderry Air is perfect for recitals and concert performance. The Trumpet Tune and Air was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop.  Written around 1700, for many years this piece was attributed to Henry Purcell. But more recently many have questioned whether the composer was in fact Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. What is known is that the piece was written for a semi-opera called The Island Princess, and that both men contributed music to the production. In recent years this piece has become a popular wedding favourite. This full version is arranged as a duet for Trumpet and Trombone and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The short sample here and the full length version on the youtube link are from the Clarinet and Alto Saxophone version of this arrangement.Musicians at an  intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. This version is arranged as a duet in a Gospel style for one Clarinet and one Violin. After flooding had damaged the church organ in Oberdorf, Austria, Mohr asked local schoolmaster, Gruber, to write a Christmas melody to be accompanied by guitar. Silent Night was the result. The carol remained unpublished until 1833, but has since gained huge international popularity. Bing Crosby’s version sold more than 10 million copies and UNESCO has declared the carol an intangible cultural heritageWith a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Silent Night is perfect for seasonal celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal.
