The music reflects and amplifies my own subjective responses to the artworks.The movements are organised in pairs, circling out from a still centre – No Woman, No Cry. The title for this centrepiece comes from Chris Ofili’s moving portrait of Doreen Lawrence, the mother of a teenager murdered in an unprovoked racist attack. As well as this specific reference, the artist intended the painting to be read as a universal portrayal of melancholy, solace, and grief. The two segments flanking No Woman, No Cry complete the central triptych. Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks explores loneliness and isolation, while Grayson Perry’s #Lamentation is a meditation on remembrance and the transience of life. In contrast to the rest of Wynwood Walls, the music here is dark and introspective.I want my time with you is a giant neon sign designed by Tracey Emin for St. Pancras Station, London. Selfie with Sunflowers is an essay written by Julian Barnes about our over-familiarisation with Van Gogh’s iconic sunflower paintings. The music is sentimental, bordering on schmaltz and kitsch. Sunflower Seeds and Infinity Room are a pair of moto perpetuo scherzos inspired by the minimalist installations of Ai Weiwei and Yayoi Kusama respectively. The opening section, Bathers at Asnières, suggests Seurat’s iconic painting, while the finale, Seurat’s Bathers, evokes Howard Hodgkin’s reworking of the Seurat using a blaze of vivid colours.The title of the quintet is borrowed from the Wynwood art district of Miami – an area characterised by the hundreds of colourful street murals which decorate the walls of old warehouses in the neighbourhood. Morning Has Broken is a popular and well-known Christian hymn first published in 1931. It has words by English author Eleanor Farjeon and was inspired by the village of Alfriston in East Sussex, then set to a traditional Scottish Gaelic tune known as Bunessan [1] (it shares this tune with the 19th century Christmas Carol Child in the Manger[2]). It is often sung in children's services and in Funeral services.[3] English pop musician and folk singer Cat Stevens included a version on his 1971 album Teaser and the Firecat. The song became identified with Stevens due to the popularity of this recording. It reached number six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, number one on the U.S. easy listening chartin 1972,[4] and number four on the Canadian RPM Magazine charts. The hymn originally appeared in the second edition of Songs of Praise (published in 1931), to the tune Bunessan, composed in the Scottish Islands. In Songs of Praise Discussed, the editor, Percy Dearmer, explains that as there was need for a hymn to give thanks for each day, English poet and children's author Eleanor Farjeon had been asked to make a poem to fit the lovely Scottish tune. A slight variation on the original hymn, also written by Eleanor Farjeon, can be found in the form of a poem contributed to the anthology Children's Bells, under Farjeon's new title, A Morning Song (For the First Day of Spring), published by Oxford University Press in 1957. The song is noted in 9/4 time but with a 3/4 feel. Bunessan had been found in L. McBean's Songs and Hymns of the Gael, published in 1900.[5] Before Farjeon's words, the tune was used as a Christmas carol, which began Child in the manger, Infant of Mary, translated from the Scottish Gaelic lyrics written by Mary MacDonald. The English-language Roman Catholic hymnal also uses the tune for the James Quinn hymns, Christ Be Beside Me and This Day God Gives Me, both of which were adapted from the traditional Irish hymn St. Patrick's Breastplate. German.Friedrich Gernsheim (1839–1916) entstammt einer angesehenen jüdischen Familie aus Worms am Rhein und war zu Lebzeiten ein äußerst erfolgreicher und hoch angesehener Komponist, dessen Musik es wiederzuentdecken gilt. Mit dem Gesangverein des Stern’sche Konservatoriums und Wilhelm Berger am Klavier wurde „Hafis – Eine Lieder-Reihe 1891 im Konzertsaal der Berliner Singakademie uraufgeführt. Die Texte der Lieder wählte Gernsheim aus einer 1846 erschienenen und von Georg Friedrich Daumer angefertigten Übersetzung von mehr als 200 Gedichten des persischen Dichters Hafis (eigentlich Mohammed Schemseddin (KhÄwje Shams-od-DÄ«n Moḥammad ḤÄfeẓ-e ShÄ«rÄzÄ«), ca. 1325–1390) aus. Er vertonte 17 Texte, hauptsächlich zu den Themen Liebe, Wein und dem sich stets wandelnden, aber dennoch kreisenden Menschsein, und verteilt sie auf 13 Nummern unterschiedlicher Form und Besetzung. Ähnlich wie die Liebesliederwalzer seines guten Freundes Johannes Brahms enthält Gernsheims Zyklus einige solistische Lieder, Duette und Quartette. Der Hauptunterschied und letztlich auch das Ungewöhnliche an der Reihe ist die grundsätzliche Konzeption für (wahrscheinlich groß besetzten) Chor und Solisten, die teils getrennt, in einzelnen Nummern aber auch gemeinsam und im Wechsel auftreten. Strophenlieder sind ebenso enthalten wie durchkomponierte und offene Formen. Ein groß angelegtes Finale schließt die Liederreihe ab, die tatsächlich als zusammenhängender Zyklus konzipiert ist, was aber die Aufführung einer Auswahl an Liedern nicht grundsätzlich ausschließt. Musikalisch ist die chorische Anlage deutlich zu erkennen, was Hafis auch im Gegensatz zu den Brahms’schen Quartetten für einen Amateurchor deutlich leichter aufführbar macht und nicht zuletzt auf Gernsheims eigene Chorleitungspraxis zurückzuführen sein dürfte. Der Klavierpart hingegen zeugt von einer technisch versierten Beschäftigung mit dem Instrument und auch die Soli sind merklich anspruchsvoller angelegt. Im Gesamten stellt die Liederreihe eine äußerst gelungene und in sich schlüssige Komposition dar. Sie leistet somit ihren Beitrag zur Wiederentdeckung der (nach jahrelanger Nicht-Beachtung während und nach der NS-Zeit) bisher nur dürftig erschlossenen Chorwerke des Wormser Komponisten Friedrich Gernsheim. Die zeitgleich zur Edition erschienene CD-Einspielung des Kammerchors Vox Quadrata ermöglicht einen leichteren Zugang zur Musik Friedrich Gernsheims.

Questa raccolta di dieci brani per organo, concepita tra il 2021 e il 2023, rappresenta un passo significativo nel mio percorso compositivo. Manualiter volume II costituisce la continuazione di un viaggio musicale compositivo iniziato con la mia prima raccolta dall’omonimo titolo. Ogni brano è una riflessione sulla potenza espressiva dell'organo, guidata principalmente dai manuali e con l'uso parsimonioso dei pedali. Attraverso queste miniature organistiche, cerco di comunicare la mia visione della musica, invitando gli interpreti e gli ascoltatori ad immergersi in un'esperienza emotiva unica. La sequenza di brani inizia con la complessa Ciaccona palindroma, seguita dalla Ciaccona sopra DCHLA, il cui tema si basa sulle iniziali del mio nome e cognome, conferendo un carattere personale e distintivo. Cantabile d'affetto ed Elevazione introducono emozioni intense e profonde, mentre la Toccata aggiunge dinamismo e vitalità. Herzlich tut mich verlangen merita una menzione speciale. Questo brano è un corale seguito da due variazioni, con il tema tratto dal famoso corale della tradizione luterana dedicato al tempo di passione. Le variazioni esplorano le sfumature emotive del tema, offrendo un viaggio attraverso interpretazioni ricche e personali. La Toccata breve e il Canto di Pace presentano contrasti significativi, evidenziando la mia volontà di esplorare una vasta gamma di atmosfere ed emozioni. Inoltre Canto di Pace è un omaggio musicale alle vittime dell'attacco del 07 ottobre 2023 in Israele, un tentativo di commemorare coloro che hanno perso la vita in quel tragico evento attraverso la potenza emotiva della musica. Le Partite sopra In dulci jubilo si ispirano al corale natalizio della tradizione luterana In dulci jubilo e sono articolate in quattro variazioni, ognuna unica        nel suo approccio e nell'esplorare le possibilità sonore dell'organo. Infine c’è il brano U vaqa Sënd Vit, che tradotto dall'arbëresh significa Sono andato a San Vito. Questo brano è un omaggio alle mie origini arbëresh e trae ispirazione da un canto popolare della comunità arbëresh di Greci ed è dedicato al Cavaliere della Repubblica dott. Bartolomeo Zoccano che tanto si è prodigato per la diffusione della cultura arbëresh. La composizione adotta la forma della variazione, esplorando le potenzialità di questo canto tradizionale attraverso il linguaggio ricco ed evocativo dell'organo. Manualiter volume II rappresenta il frutto del mio impegno e della mia passione per l'arte dell'organo. Confido che questa raccolta possa essere accolta con la stessa gioia e apprezzamento con cui è stata creata, offrendo un viaggio musicale che va oltre le note, esplorando le profondità dell'anima attraverso le tastiere e i pedali dell'organo, e trovi un luogo speciale nei cuori degli organisti, degli appassionati di musica e di tutti coloro che cercano un'esperienza musicale significativa e avvincente.
